BCS Standings: Wisconsin, Notre Dame and Teams Who Will Earn Gigantic Victories

Matt FaulconerOct 21, 2011

The Wisconsin Badgers were spurned by the BCS when were announced as the No. 6 team in the country behind the likes of Boise State and Oklahoma State. They are going to use that as motivation this week when they head to East Lansing to blow out the Michigan State Spartans.

Statistically speaking, Wisconsin should be the No. 1 team in the country. They score more points than any other team per game, while giving up less than 10 points per game. What more could Wisconsin fans ask for?

The biggest problem for the Badgers is that they have played each of their games so far at home except one, which isn't going to impress many people. Only one of those victories came against a ranked team, but it was a blowout victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

They get the opportunity to prove themselves this week against the Spartans. Michigan State has proven this year that they have one of the best defenses in college football, but they were exposed badly in a 31-13 loss against Notre Dame.

If they thought the Fighting Irish's offense was lethal, just wait until they face the Badgers. Wisconsin's offense features both one of the best run games and one of the best passing attacks in the country.

Russell Wilson has topped 1,500 yards passing already, while Montee Ball is over 600 yards rushing.

The Spartans stand no chance of slowing down this offense, and are going to be destroyed at home.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Fighting Irish have been up and down this season despite all of their talent. They struggled badly with holding onto the football in their first couple games, but have been much better as of late.

Notre Dame has played very well in three of their last four games, and look more like the BCS team they were supposed to be prior to the season. With a 4-2 record right now, the Irish will likely surge back into the top 25 with a victory over the USC Trojans.

USC is another team that has been very inconsistent. They sneaked by against Arizona, Utah and Minnesota, but lost to Arizona State.

Outside of Matt Barkley and Robert Woods, this offense doesn't boast enough firepower to get by the Fighting Irish.

This one could get ugly fast, especially if USC's defense doesn't show up to play.

Stanford Cardinals

Andrew Luck's team has been on cruise control this season. They haven't played a single ranked team to date, which won't impress the BCS committees.

They finally get their chance to knock off a ranked team this week when the Washington Huskies come to town.

Sophomore quarterback Keith Price has been explosive for Washington. He has thrown for 21 touchdowns already and just four interceptions. Running back Chris Polk has also been extremely effective for this team, and is proving to be one of the most underrated players in the country.

Nevertheless, this team has yet to record an extremely impressive victory, and they couldn't slow down Nebraska's offense.

The Cardinals offense has been very balanced this year, and the defense has been effective. Stanford is just the more well-rounded team, and they are going to dismantle the Huskies in this Pac-12 game.
