UCLA vs. Arizona Fight: Players to Blame for Brawl Instigated by Fake Referee
The brawl that broke out between the Arizona Wildcats and UCLA Bruins has just become par of the course in sports. And that's one of the most disgusting and despicable thoughts you could ever want to consider to be normal.
With the exception of hockey, where it is actually part of the sport, fighting should have no part in athletics and there should be a zero tolerance policy regarding it.
Believe me, I know that competition can sometimes get very heated, and I understand the frustration of losing big and having it pushed down your throat, but there is still no excuse or reason to start a brawl, especially in college sports.
Something that seems to be forgotten in today's college athletics atmosphere is that these players are actually student-athletes.
The context of both of those words together is a completely different topic for a completely different article, but the fact remains that if they were just students, something like this would have been treated completely different.
If a bunch of students from UCLA and Arizona decided to get in a brawl during the game most of them would have ended up in jail, and some would have ended up worse.
There would be lawsuits, time spent in court and multiple fines, and that's saying the least about the situation.
They always say that football players get away with things that would have most people sent to jail, but that's just talking about what happens during the course of legal gameplay.
There was nothing legal about this brawl.
It started with a fake referee-turned-streaker that provided ample distraction, but all the blame has to go firmly on the players for this one.
There's absolutely no excuse for brawling, but a fake referee streaker is one of the worst ones I have heard yet.
