College Football Rankings: Ranking All 120 FBS Teams Heading into Week 9

Another crazy week of college football has come and gone, and boy did the late games bring some late-game drama. 

Michigan State pulled off a Hail Mary to knock off Wisconsin, and Texas Tech went on the road and defeated unbeaten Oklahoma. With these losses, two more teams fall from the list of undefeated teams, and teams with one loss begin to become more and more hopeful.

With the recent shakeup at the top of the rankings and around the nation, here is a look at the power rankings after nine weeks of football.  

No. 120: New Mexico

Record: 0-7

Next Game: Air Force

Quick Note: Simply put, New Mexico is on a fast track to a winless season.

No. 119: Florida Atlantic

Record: 0-7

Next Game: Arkansas State

Quick Note: The Owls continue to stay winless, but unlike New Mexico, they continue to compete and should be able to win a game this year. 

No. 118: UAB

Record: 1-6

Next Game: at Marshall

Quick Note: Despite being on a short week, UAB got one in the win column as they beat UCF 26-24. 

No. 117: Kent State

Record: 1-6 

Next Game: Bowling Green

Quick Note: After getting a bye week, the Golden Flashes return to the field against Bowling Green. One thing is for sure, the offense must be better. 

No. 116: Colorado

Record: 1-7

Next Game: Arizona State

Quick Note: It is starting to look like Colorado will not win a conference game. In this past week's game, the only way Colorado got on the board was when Oregon scored on themselves. 

No. 115: Indiana

Record: 1-7

Next Game: Northwestern

Quick Note: Things continue to get worse and worse for the Hoosiers. For the first time since the second game of the year, Indiana scores more than 21 points, but the defense gives up 45.

No. 114: UNLV

Record: 1-5

Next Game: Colorado State

Quick Note: While things may not be going well so far, UNLV is coming off a bye week and has a chance to turn things around against Colorado State.

No. 113: Minnesota

Record: 1-6

Next Game: Iowa

Quick Note: Minnesota continues to look lost offensively and is going nowhere fast. 

No. 112: Akron

Record: 1-6

Next Game: Central Michigan

Quick Note: Akron now has two separate three-game losing streaks and continues to struggle defensively. 

No. 111: Idaho

Record: 1-6

Next Game: Hawaii

Quick Note: The Vandals have now lost five straight, and the schedule begins to get more difficult. Looks like Idaho could be heading toward a one-win season. 

No. 110: Boston College

Record: 1-6

Next Game: Maryland

Quick Note: The nightmare of a season continues, as the Eagles have dropped their third straight for the second time this season and are not getting better. 

No. 109: Memphis

Record: 2-6

Next Game: at UCF

Quick Note: A four-game losing streak came to an end, as Memphis was able to take out Tulane this week. This was the best performance they got out of their defense since the third week of the season. 

No. 108: Buffalo

Record: 2-6

Next Game: Miami (Ohio)

Quick Note: This past week, Buffalo rallied against Northern Illinois and missed an extra point with seconds remaining to tie the game. The Bulls continue to be unable to catch a break. 

No. 107: Middle Tennessee

Record: 2-4

Next Game: UL Lafayette

Quick Note: After a tough double overtime loss a couple week ago, Middle Tennessee rebounded with a win over Florida Atlantic.

No. 106: UL Monroe

Record: 2-5

Next Game: Western Kentucky

Quick Note: After defeating Troy, UL Monroe could not stop North Texas from scoring and will look to get back to winning against Western Kentucky. 

No. 105: Miami (Ohio)

Record: 2-5

Next Game: Buffalo

Quick Note: After two straight wins, the Miami of Ohio defense was torched by Toledo's offense, but should be able to control Buffalo's offense. 

No. 104: Kansas

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Texas

Quick Note: Turner Gill's defense continues to be awful in all phases and is showing no signs of improvement. 

No. 103: Oregon State

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Utah

Quick Note: Oregon State finally earned their second victory, but it came against Washington State. They could end up being Utah's first conference win this week. 

No. 102: Tulane

Record: 2-6

Next Game: at East Carolina

Quick Note: After a 2-1 start to the year, Tulane has dropped five straight and is sinking fast. 

No. 101: Northwestern

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Indiana

Quick Note: With their losing streak now at five, there is no better opportunity to bring this streak to an end than against Indiana. 

No. 100: Central Michigan

Record: 2-6

Next Game: at Akron

Quick Note: Central Michigan has a pattern going of winning a game, then losing three straight. The pattern would dictate a win over Akron. 

No. 99: Army

Record: 2-5

Next Game: Fordham

Quick Note: While this season may not be going well at all for Army, this week's game against Fordham provides them with a chance to turn it back around.

No. 98: Navy

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Notre Dame

Quick Note: Navy just cannot seem to get their defense back on track after their 2-0 start. They have now lost five straight, and a game at South Bend could very well make it six.

No. 97: Utah State

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Hawaii

Quick Note: After losing their second straight game, Utah State gets a week off before having to head to Hawaii for a game against the Warriors. 

No. 96: Ole Miss

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Auburn

Quick Note: It appeared like Ole Miss might pull off an upset over Arkansas, but as the lead slipped away, Ole Miss slipped to 2-5.

No. 95: Rice

Record: 2-5

Next Game: at Houston

Quick Note: With a defense that has struggled for most of the year, seeing Houston on the schedule is the last thing Rice needed. 

No. 94: North Texas

Record: 3-5

Next Game: Arkansas State

Quick Note: North Texas continues to struggle with consistency, but has gotten to three wins with a victory over UL Monroe this past week. 

No. 93: Troy

Record: 2-4

Next Game: at FIU

Quick Note: Troy is coming off a bye week, gets back to action against FIU and is looking to stop a two-game losing streak. 

No. 92: Kentucky

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Mississippi State

Quick Note: After getting a break from conference play and earning a win, Kentucky must find a way to win three of their next five to become bowl eligible. 

No. 91: Louisiana Tech

Next Game: San Jose State

Quick Note: Another team rebounding from a slow start is Louisiana State. The Bulldogs have won two straight, and San Jose State is next up. 

No. 90: East Carolina

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Tulane

Quick Note: After a rough start to the year, East Carolina has posted back-to-back wins and has a chance of climbing back to .500 this week. 

No. 89: Marshall

Record: 3-5

Next Game: UAB

Quick Note: While the drumming they took against Houston was not fun, they should be able to get a win against UAB this week, but it all depends on the defense. 

No. 88: Duke

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Virginia Tech

Quick Note: After a three-game winning streak, the Blue Devils have dropped two straight and are looking more like the team people expected. 

No. 87: Maryland

Record: 2-5

Next Game: Boston College

Quick Note: In his first year as coach at Maryland, Randy Edsall is not having things go as well as he had hoped. The Terps must beat Boston College and get things turned around. 

No. 86: San Jose State

Record: 3-4 

Next Game: at Louisiana Tech

Quick Note: San Jose State had this past week off after defeating Hawaii. With a 3-4 record, the Spartans have done a nice job recovering from their 0-3 start. 

No. 85: Western Kentucky

Record: 3-3

Next Game: UL Monroe

Quick Note: Don't look now, but Western Kentucky has put together three straight wins and has a good chance to make it four against UL Monroe. 

No. 84: New Mexico State

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Nevada

Quick Note: New Mexico State had their two-game winning streak snapped by Hawaii, and their upcoming game against Nevada could be an offensive shootout. 

No. 83: UCLA

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Cal

Quick Note: Rick Neuheisel's time at UCLA is coming to an end. An awful loss to Arizona this past week could be the beginning of the end. 

No. 82: Colorado State

Record: 3-4

Next Game: at UNLV

Quick Note: After a 3-1 start, the Rams have dropped three straight, and if they don't beat UNLV, things could get out of hand. 

No. 81: Utah

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Oregon State

Quick Note: Utah's struggles in-conference continued, as they dropped a game to Cal. This week they will get their best opportunity at a win, as they face Oregon State. 

No. 80: Arizona

Next Game: at Washington

Quick Note: In their first game without Mike Stoops, the Wildcats earned a victory to stop their five-game slide. 

No. 79: UCF

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Memphis

Quick Note: A promising start to the season has gone south, as UCF has now dropped two straight to go below .500. They need the defense to get back on track as they take on Memphis. 

No. 78: Air Force

Record: 3-4

Next Game: at New Mexico

Quick Note: The Falcons have now dropped three straight after a 3-1 start, and if New Mexico makes it four, then Air Force has hit rock bottom. 

No. 77: Fresno State

Record: 3-5

Next Game: Louisiana Tech

Quick Note: With high expectations entering the year, Pat Hill and Fresno State continue to fall short and will have two weeks to figure out a way to get back to winning. 

No. 76: Washington State

Record: 3-4

Next Game: at Oregon

Quick Note: After a promising start to the year, Washington State has dropped three straight conference games and now heads on the road to Autzen Stadium.

No. 75: Western Michigan

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Ball State

Quick Note: The Broncos failed to close out Eastern Michigan this week and earn a big win. With Ball State up next, they will really need to step up on both sides of the ball. 

No. 74: Louisville

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Syracuse

Quick Note: Louisville was able to pull out a victory over Rutgers this past week, and with only one conference loss, the Cardinals are certainly not out of it. 

No. 73: Pittsburgh

Record: 3-4

Next Game: Connecticut

Quick Note: After having a week off, Pitt gets to play on Wednesday night in a game that could eliminate a team from conference contention. 

No. 72: Missouri

Record: 3-4

Next Game: at Texas A&M

Quick Note: Missouri's offense continues to be wildly inconsistent, and until that changes, the results will stay the same. 

No. 71: Iowa State

Record: 3-4

Next Game: at Texas Tech

Quick Note: After a 3-0 start, the Cyclones have dropped four straight and have not been able to find the defensive effort they were getting at the start of the year. 

No. 70: Tennessee

Record: 3-4

Next Game: South Carolina

Quick Note: SEC conference play is not treating Tennessee well. This year, the Vols are 3-0 out of conference and 0-4 in conference. 

No. 69: Connecticut

Record: 3-4

Next Game: at Pitt

Quick Note: After a win over South Florida and a bye week, defending Big East champion Connecticut returns to the field with a chance to earn a key conference win at Pittsburgh. 

No. 68: Mississippi State

Next Game: at Kentucky 

Quick Note: After pushing South Carolina to the limit, Mississippi State got this past week off and will look for the same kind of effort against Kentucky.

No. 67: Vanderbilt

Record: 4-3

Next Game: Arkansas

Quick Note: While Vanderbilt has certainly taken advantage of their non-conference schedule, they are still struggling in the SEC and face Arkansas this week. 

No. 66: Eastern Michigan

Record: 5-3 

Next Game: Ball State

Quick Note: Who would have thought that Ron English would have had the Eagles at 5-3, but that is exactly where they are, with a chance to become bowl eligible. 

No. 65: Bowling Green

Record: 4-4

Next Game: Kent State

Quick Note: Bowling Green finally brought a three-game losing streak to an end with a big win over Temple. 

No. 64: UTEP

Record: 4-3

Next Game: Southern Miss

Quick Note: For the first time this year, UTEP was able to put together two straight wins, and if their offense can continue to perform the way they have, they could make it three straight. 

No. 63: Wyoming

Record: 4-2

Next Game: at San Diego State

Quick Note: Wyoming has had the past week to rest and regroup as they prepare to face San Diego State this week. The Cowboys are hoping to get the same kind of performance they got during the UNLV game. 

No. 62: Arkansas State

Record: 5-2

Next Game: North Texas

Quick Note: Arkansas State continues to impress as they move to 5-2, but North Texas will be a test for them this Saturday.

No. 61: Ball State

Record: 5-3

Next Game: at Western Michigan

Quick Note: After dropping two consecutive games, Ball State has rebounded with two straight wins and is on the verge of becoming bowl eligible. 

No. 60: NC State

Record: 4-3

Next Game: at Florida State

Quick Note: Seems like N.C. State is starting to get things together without Russell Wilson. A game against Florida State is a winnable game, something you may not have thought at the start of the year. 

No. 59: Tulsa

Next Game: SMU 

Quick Note: After starting the season with games against Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Boise State, Tulsa has rebounded well, and this week's win pushed them above .500.

No. 58: Hawaii

Record: 4-3

Next Game: at Idaho

Quick Note: After a crazy loss to San Jose State, Hawaii rebounded with a victory and heads to Idaho this week. 

No. 57: UL Lafayette

Record: 6-2

Next Game: at Middle Tennessee

Quick Note: After pulling out six straight wins, UL Lafayette stumbled this week against Western Kentucky, as their defense could not get going. 

No. 56: South Florida

Record: 4-3

Next Game: at Rutgers

Quick Note: South Florida has quickly gone from being a conference contender to way out of the picture, as they have lost three straight games in-conference. 

No. 55: FIU

Next Game: Troy

Quick Note: FIU kicks off tonight against Troy in a big game for the Golden Panthers. This is a game they should win, and they need to rebound from last week's loss. 

No. 54: Nevada

Record: 4-3

Next Game: at New Mexico State

Quick Note: After facing a rough opening schedule, the Wolf Pack have rattled off three straight wins and are getting stronger week by week. 

No. 53: San Diego State

Record: 4-2

Next Game: Wyoming

Quick Note: It will have been 16 days since the Aztecs have played last, but they need to get off to a fast start when they take on the Cowboys. 

No. 52: Florida State

Record: 4-3

Next Game: N.C. State

Quick Note: This is certainly not where the Seminoles expected to find themselves at this point of the season, but they have won two straight and may be starting to get back on track. 

No. 51: Cal

Record: 4-3

Next Game: at UCLA

Quick Note: Cal was able to bring a three-game losing streak to an end this past week when they defeated Utah. They should be able to keep rolling, as they face UCLA this week. 

No. 50: Purdue

Record: 4-3

Next Game: at Michigan

Quick Note: The win-loss pattern continues for Purdue, which points toward a loss in Ann Arbor this week. 

No. 49: Northern Illinois

Record: 5-3

Next Game: at Toledo

Quick Note: Northern Illinois' defense and offense are starting to pick it up as of late; the Huskies have won three straight and now stay on the road to face Toledo.

No. 48: Virginia

Record: 4-3

Next Game: at Miami

Quick Note: After shocking Georgia Tech, Virginia proved to be inconsistent, as they lost to N.C. State and must now head on the road to take on Miami Thursday night. 

No. 47: Temple

Quick Note: Temple lost a surprising game this past week against Bowling Green on the road, and unfortunately, they will stay on the road to take on Ohio. 

No. 46: Ohio

Quick Note: After bringing a two-game losing streak to an end, Ohio will now have two weeks to prepare for Temple and the last third of their schedule.

Quick Note: Toledo has hit their stride with four straight wins now. This week's game against Northern Illinois will be a huge test for the Rockets' defense.

Quick Note: After pulling off five straight victories, SMU was dropped this week by Southern Miss and now heads on the road to take on Tulsa. 

No. 43: Notre Dame

Record: 4-3

Next Game: Navy

Quick Note: Turnovers once again haunt the Fighting Irish, as they drop a game to USC at home. With a BCS berth almost certainly out of the question, the Irish are hoping to get things turned around again. 

No. 42: Ohio State

Record: 4-3

Next Game: Wisconsin

Quick Note: Ohio State had this past week off and was able to watch the Badgers drop a game to Michigan State. It will be interesting to see how the Buckeyes handle the high-powered Badgers offense. 

No. 41: North Carolina

Quick Note: After getting out to a 5-1 start, UNC has dropped the last two and has seen their defense struggle immensely. 

No. 40: Florida

Next Game: Georgia 

Quick Note: After three tough losses in the SEC, Florida got this past week off, but things pick right back up as they face a red-hot Georgia team. 

No. 39: Iowa

Record: 5-2

Next Game: at Minnesota

Quick Note: Another team that continues to quietly win in the Big Ten is Iowa. They are now 5-2, and a game against Minnesota points toward being 6-2. 

No. 38: Wake Forest

Record: 5-2

Next Game: at North Carolina

Quick Note: In a game they should have won with ease, Wake Forest barley pulled out a win over Duke and now heads back on the road to take on North Carolina.

No. 37: Illinois

Record: 6-2

Next Game: at Penn State

Quick Note: After a loss against Ohio State ended their undefeated season, the Fighting Illini followed it up with a loss to Purdue, and now must face Penn State. 

No. 36: BYU

Record: 6-2

Next Game: at TCU

Quick Note: Early in the year, BYU lost big to Utah, but has rebounded with five straight wins and looks strong heading into the game against TCU. 

No. 35: TCU

Record: 5-2

Next Game: BYU

Quick Note: TCU keeps winning, and the game against Boise State is drawing closer. It will be interesting to see how they handle the games leading up to their trip to the blue turf. 

No. 34: Rutgers

Quick Note: With a promising season going, Rutgers dropped a game to Louisville this past week and now must follow it up with a game against the Mountaineers. 

No. 33: Miami

Quick Note: The Hurricanes finally put together two wins in a row as they defeated Georgia Tech. There is no reason Miami cannot make it three in a row against Virginia. 

No. 32: Texas

Quick Note: Texas will be looking to bring their two-game losing streak to an end this week as they face the worst defense around: Kansas.

No. 31: Syracuse

Quick Note: Syracuse did a great job this past week taking out West Virginia and is among the teams still competing for the conference title. 

No. 30: Georgia Tech

Record: 6-2

Next Game: Clemson

Quick Note: Things are falling apart for Georgia Tech. They have now dropped two straight games, and they have seen their high-powered offense slowed over the past three weeks. 

No. 29: Washington

Record: 5-2

Next Game: Arizona

Quick Note: With a chance to prove themselves, the Huskies fell flat against Stanford and did not look good at all. 

No. 28: Baylor

Record: 4-2

Next Game: Oklahoma State

Quick Note: After a season where Baylor has looked very good at times, the Bears have a golden opportunity to make their mark with a win over Oklahoma State. 

No. 27: Southern Miss

Record: 6-1

Next Game: at UTEP

Quick Note: Southern Miss continues to fly under the radar and has now gotten to 6-1 with 7-1 being a very good bet, as they play UTEP. 

No. 26: Auburn

Next Game: Ole Miss

Quick Note: Despite missing some players, LSU still had its way with Auburn. One way to get over a loss like that is by playing this week's opponent—Ole Miss.

Quick Note: Michigan has had a week to think about their loss to Michigan State and gets back home to play Purdue. It will be interesting to see how they handle the quarterback situation after the game against the Spartans.

Quick Note: The Sun Devils have had a week to think about their loss against Oregon. The good news is this week's opponent will help them get over it quickly. 

No. 21: Georgia

Quick Note: Georgia is now coming off a bye week and will look to keep their hot streak going to six games. With a season that started so poorly, the Bulldogs have done a great job of turning it around. 

No. 20: Penn State

Record: 7-1

Next Game: Illinois

Quick Note: Penn State has continued to quietly win, but their final four games against Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State and Wisconsin will tell the nation everything they need to know about this team. 

No. 19: Texas Tech

Record: 5-2

Next Game: Iowa State

Quick Note: Texas Tech is coming off their biggest win of the year. They were able to take down Oklahoma at home and now must focus on earning a win over Iowa State. 

No. 18: USC

Record: 6-1

Next Game: Stanford

Quick Note: After a huge road win over Notre Dame, the Trojans face an even bigger test when they take on the Cardinal in a huge conference game. 

No. 17: Houston

Record: 7-0

Next Game: Rice

Quick Note: Houston is one of the remaining teams that are undefeated, and if Case Keenum keeps putting up the numbers he has, they will remain that way.  

No. 16: Texas A&M

Record: 5-2

Next Game: Missouri

Quick Note: After losing back-to-back games with leads in the second half, Texas A&M has responded with three straight wins and has gotten themselves back on track. 

No. 15: Virginia Tech

Record: 7-1

Next Game: at Duke

Quick Note: Only thing that can stop the Hokies from winning this week is themselves. 

No. 14: South Carolina

Quick Note: After squeaking out a win over Mississippi State, South Carolina got a bye week to regroup and will head to Tennessee this week.

Quick Note: This week's game is huge. The Cornhuskers and Spartans will be going up against each other, and it could determine the division title.

Quick Note: Anytime you lose the way Wisconsin did this week, you must make sure you put that game behind you—especially with a road game against Ohio State coming up.

Quick Note: Despite a loss to Alabama, Arkansas has answered with three straight wins and will look to earn another conference win against Vanderbilt.

Quick Note: After an opening week loss to LSU, Oregon has quietly won six straight and will likely be 8-1 when facing Stanford in a game that will determine the Pac-12 North.

Quick Note: While Boise State continues to win, they are not doing so in an impressive manner, and when you play their schedule, you need to win—and win big.

Quick Note: After a dominating win over Washington, the Cardinal head on the road to take on USC, and if they get past this game, they should be undefeated when facing Oregon.

Quick Note: After another impressive win, the only thing that could separate the Tigers from an undefeated season is this week's game at Georgia Tech.

Quick Note: Oklahoma State is now in the driver's seat in the Big 12. With Oklahoma's loss, the Cowboys have a blueprint for their game against the Sooners at the end of the year.

Quick Note: The game the nation has wanted is going to happen in two weeks. Both LSU and Alabama are undefeated, and it should be an amazing game.
