Alabama Football: Why the Crimson Tide Will Roll over the LSU Tigers

Gatlin DentOct 20, 2011

Alabama has arguably the best college football program in the nation, and this year is no different.

The Crimson Tide have dominated their opponents this season and currently hold the No. 2 spot in the BCS Rankings. By the way the Tide have played this season, you wouldn't have guessed it.

Alabama has absolutely steamrolled the opposition this year on offense, defense and occasionally even special teams.

The Tide are currently 7-0 (4-0 SEC) and look to continue their success this weekend against the Tennessee Volunteers. However, most fans are fixated on the November 5th matchup with the No. 1-ranked LSU Tigers.

The November 5th meeting between these two juggernauts will be the biggest regular season game in college football since the 2006 meeting between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Michigan, and could potentially be the biggest regular season college football game ever.

The matchup between Alabama and LSU last season was big, but it holds no comparison to this season. After last year's 21-24 loss to LSU, the Crimson Tide will look to exact their revenge on the Tigers, and nothing can stop them.

Alabama currently holds the top spot in defense, and it would take an apocalyptic meltdown for Nick Saban's Tide to lose it. No matter what offense has been put in front of them, the Alabama defense has demolished it.

The defense is on top in almost every defensive category, including points against and forcing three-and-outs. Running on the Tide will not be an option for LSU, so strong quarterback play is essential for the Tigers. The problem for LSU is that Les Miles hasn't chosen "the guy."

After the suspension of Jordan Jefferson, Jarrett Lee filled in nicely in the Tiger offense and helped fuel LSU's strong start. However, Miles has played both quarterbacks in every game since Jefferson's reinstatement.

The offense hasn't really clicked since then. With Lee looking over his shoulder, look for the Tide to rattle him and disrupt the offense.

Alabama running back Trent Richardson currently sits as a top contender for the Heisman Trophy at the end of the season. Richardson is a powerful back, and runs through even SEC defenses.

While the Florida native's talent may be unmatched, he faces a new challenge with the LSU defense. The Tigers will do what they have to do to shut down Alabama's running game and force them to pass.

Tide quarterback AJ McCarron needs to have a strong outing to guarantee a Crimson Tide victory.

Alabama fans have acknowledged this game as a revenge game. Last year's loss set them back in the SEC title chase, and Saban and his players will look to do the same to the Tigers this time around.

Alabama will play with a fire that will be unmatched by any team in the country, and Bryant-Denny Stadium will become a living nightmare for the Tigers.
