10 Hottest Forwards in World Football Right Now

0 of 10

"Form is temporary, class is permanent," so goes the famous saying. Most of these players would lay claim to both right now.

Based on their goalscoring contributions, here are my top 10 form players in world football. I've tried to provide a broad view of the major leagues, along with taking into account international performances.

Let me know if there are any others you think deserve inclusion...

1. Gonzalo Higuain

1 of 10

Argentine striker Higuain made it three hat-tricks in four games with his treble against Real Betis at the weekend.

The 23-year-old striker has scored hat-tricks in two consecutive La Liga games, with another on international duty sandwiched between.

2. Wayne Rooney

2 of 10

Rooney has scored 14 times in 18 appearances so far this season, including back-to-back hat-tricks for Manchester United against Arsenal and Bolton.

His most recent offering was a penalty double in United's Champions League win against Galati.

3. Miroslav Klose

3 of 10

Lazio's signing of Miroslav Klose is looking a very shrewd move indeed.

The German international striker has scored four times in his first six Serie A appearances, and also helped himself to a couple in the Europa League.

When you consider he's provided a couple of assists in Serie A too, Klose clearly still has much to offer at the highest level.

4. Mario Gomez

4 of 10

Gomez is arguably the hottest striker in world football right now. The German international has scored 10 times in eight Bundesliga appearances this season, two in Euro 2012 qualifying and three in the Champions League.

5. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar

5 of 10

Huntelaar has scored six in his last five games, including successive goals for the Holland national team in Euro 2012 qualifying.

The Schalke striker has eight in nine Bundesliga appearances, and looks to be back to his very best.

6. Kevin Gameiro

6 of 10

The fact Paris Saint-Germain are top of Ligue 1 owes much to the goals of Kevin Gameiro.

PSG's summer signing from Lorient has scored eight in 10 games, including a hat-trick last time out against AC Ajaccio.

7. Rodrigo Palacio

7 of 10

Genoa's Argentine striker Palacio has scored five in his last five games in Serie A, including a double in their home win against Catania.

8. Borges

8 of 10

Santos striker Borges has scored 22 goals in 28 league matches this season, nearly twice the haul of his nearest rival (Ronaldinho has 13).

His goals haven't been enough to make Santos challengers, however. They linger in mid-table with eight games of the Brazilian season remaining.

9. Lionel Messi

9 of 10

There's really nothing to say about Lionel Messi that hasn't already been said.

Ten goals in seven La Liga appearances this season. Pretty special alright.

10. Dwayne De Rosario

10 of 10

Last but not least we go to the MLS, for DC United forward De Rosario.

The Canadian international has scored 16 times in 32 games for this season, including hat-tricks against Toronto and Salt Lake.
