BCS Rankings 2011: Stanford and Oklahoma State Most Flawed Undefeated Teams
Stanford is young and inexperienced in the offensive trenches. Of all the undefeated teams, this is one of the most glaring faults, but it is not as harmful as Oklahoma State's issue. Let's take a look at these great teams with big holes.
Stanford
Center Sam Schwartzstein, left guard David Yankey and right tackle Cameron Fleming are all new starters from last year's team.
They have held up admirably so far this season, but they have yet to be really tested.
This inexperienced interior offensive line is a cause for huge concern. Against teams with top notch front sevens the Cardinal will have a tough time getting their run game going. Of even more concern, they will have a tough time keeping Andrew Luck upright.
This is something they are talented enough to overcome in most scenarios, but it remains one of the biggest flaws of any of the outstanding teams that have yet to suffer a defeat.
As problematic as this is it is not the most glaring flaw of the undefeated teams. For the winner of that dubious honor we have to head to the Big 12.
Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State's defense is nowhere near the level of the teams in front of them. It hasn't cost them because they have such a dynamic offense, but this will surely keep them from reaching the ultimate prize.
The Cowboys are allowing 27.3 points per game. That leaves them ranked 68th in the nation.
They are giving up yards on the ground and through the air. Teams are carrying it at an average of 4.5 yards per attempt. And they are allowing a disturbing 5.4 yards per offensive play.
These are disturbing numbers, and point to a huge flaw. It is the weakest spot of any undefeated team in the top 10.
