AC Milan Transfer Talk: 5 Players Milan Should Target in January

Chris SiddellOct 19, 2011

AC Milan have had a difficult start to the Serie A season and will be looking to strengthen their roster in January to ensure they qualify for the Champions League next season.

Already having a squad full of talent means Milan need to be careful how they buy, in order to avoid a Manchester City type situation, where top quality players are not getting a game.

These five players should be at the top of the list for Massimiliano Allegri, as he looks to steady the ship and overpower teams in the second half of the season.

5. Adam Johnson

Adam Johnson has shown he has the pace, skill and ability to worry any defence, although he still finds himself struggling to make an impact at big spending Manchester City.

The English winger will be eager to move away from City in order to gain more playing time, and he is likely to spark interest from plenty of big clubs.

Working opposite Mark van Bommel at Milan, Johnson could prove to be a deadly addition to an already capable attacking side.

4. Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is quickly becoming one of the most talked about players in Europe after a string of impressive displays for Ajax.

The 19-year-old has found himself subject to seemingly endless speculation surrounding a move away from the Dutch giants, and it is surely only a matter of time before he is tempted to leave.

They will be getting in early for the youngster, and January would be a great opportunity for Milan to jump in ahead of the competition and grab the future star.

3. Nicolas Anelka

Nicolas Anelka would certainly not be a long term option for Milan, but he could bring some new experience into the club.

The Frenchman has moved around a lot, and might be keen on one more transfer before the end of his career. Chelsea could be willing to let him go for a bargain price, considering the talent they already have up front.

With over 600 professional outings, and close to 100 of them in European cup competitions (mainly Champions League), Anelka would provide a reliable and experienced strike option for Massimiliano Allegri.

2. Paulo Henrique Ganso

Paulo Henrique Ganso is another attacking midfielder who should be targeted by Milan in January.

The 22-year-old Brazilian has been a strong performer for Brazilian side Santos in recent seasons, and has so far earned seven caps for Brazil.

There will be a lot of interest from other clubs around Europe, but the deciding factors could be an early bid in January, and Alexandre Pato.  The pair have played together for Brazil, and the striker could be a persuading factor in bringing Ganso to Milan.

Christian Eriksen may well be a first choice for many, but a Brazilian midfield and strike partnership in Milan could be mouthwatering!

1. Fernando Torres

5 of 5

This is the big one and one that shouldn't be dismissed too early.

Fernando Torres has been having a dismal time at Chelsea since his move from Liverpool last year, and it seems new manager Andre Villas Boas is not going to pick him for his price tag alone.

Determined to play first team football, and earn a place in the Spain squad in time for the European Championships this summer, Torres could be open to an Italian move.

Of course, any deal would be highly unlikely to involve a permanent move just yet, but that could still be a possibility, with either Ibrahimavic or Pato moving the other direction.

A loan deal would be a lot more likely, and Milan should seriously consider making a surprise loan bid for the Spaniard, including a clause for a permanent move if he adapts to Italy well.

Chelsea might just be willing to take the bait. As mentioned earlier, their attack is incredibly strong already, and they might just be happy to get rid of his wages for a few months.
