College Football Rankings: The Real Top 10 Teams in the Nation
There are so many rankings in college football, whether it is from the BCS computers, USA Today, coaches polls and more. So, I decided to make my own top ten ranking.
This ranking is based on what I have witnessed with my own eyes by watching the games, seeing the highlights, looking at statistics and on talent.
I feel that some teams are overrated and other teams were not getting any love. So here is my top ten college football ranking mid-way through the season.
10. Oregon Ducks (BCS Rank No. 10)
1 of 10Oregon has only one loss and that came at the hands of the No.1 team in the country. This team has the talent to win the Pac-12 and beat a very good Stanford team led by Andrew Luck.
The Ducks were without their best player LaMichael James, but backup running back Kenjon Barner got the job done last week, rushing for 171 yards on 31 carries against a solid Arizona State team.
This team is really fast but can be slowed down by a powerful defense, which was evident against Auburn last year and LSU earlier this year.
As the teams ahead of them continue to beat each other up, don’t be surprise to see this team playing in one of the big money bowl games.
9. Texas A&M Aggies (BCS Rank No. 17)
2 of 10Texas A&M has one of the toughest schedules in the country already having played three ranked teams and having three more as the season progresses. The two losses do not look good on their record, but their two losses were a combine five points against Oklahoma State and Arkansas.
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill has led a great offensive attack, which is evidenced by having the 11th ranked scoring team in the country. What this Aggies team has had problems with is stopping the other teams; most of their games have been shootouts. In order for this team to compete and move up in the rankings, they have to play better on the defensive side.
The games against Oklahoma and Kansas State will truly measure how good this team is and where they will rank at the end of the season.
8. Kansas State Wildcats (BCS Rank No. 11)
3 of 10Kansas State has won some ugly games this season but they are still undefeated. They are a team led by quarterback Collin Klein who has been scoring and moving the ball with his feet and his arm. He has 10 rushing touchdowns for the season, leading the Big 12.
Special teams have also been a big part of the Wildcats success. with Raphael Guidry blocking kicks left and right. He is an absolute beast.
Every week, this Kansas State team has been the underdog but always pulled out a win. This is a team that controls the clock and slows down the game. We will all see how good this strategy, and this team, really is when they face four top 25 teams in consecutive weeks.
7. Arkansas Razorbacks (BCS Rank No. 9)
4 of 10The Arkansas Razorbacks have done really well this season with quarterback Tyler Wilson leading the way. Wilson threw for a school record 510 yards against a very good Texas A&M team. He is hands down the best quarterback in the SEC and should continue his form throughout the second half of the season.
This is a team that was riddled by injuries to their starters early on in the season but should have most of them back, making this team even harder to beat.
The Razorbacks did very well in the last three weeks, despite losing to a tenacious Alabama team, but winning against no. 14 Texas A&M and no. 15 Auburn. If they can win out the rest of their games and upset the no. 1 LSU Tigers in the final game of the season, then we might see this Razorbacks team in a BCS bowl game.
6. Clemson Tigers (BCS Rank No. 7)
5 of 10The Clemson Tigers have taken down some very talented teams in beating Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech. The Tigers are currently 7-0 with a sophomore quarterback and a freshmen running back leading the way.
This team is one of the most balanced teams in the nation, and having skill on both sides of the ball can take you a long way. They do not dominate teams but they do find ways to win, just as the National Champion Auburn Tigers did last year. Clemson is fast and explosive with a solid defense so don’t be surprise if they keep moving up on the BCS rankings.
5. Oklahoma State Cowboys (BCS Rank No. 4)
6 of 10This Cowboys teams puts up a lot of points and racks up a lot of passing yards. Receivers Justin Blackmon and Josh Cooper have put up great numbers including more than 10 yards per catch each. Quarterback Brandon Weeden has been efficient and been on a tear this season.
Oklahoma State needs to continue to win to have any national title hopes, and needs to not look ahead past the other games for the final game of the season against the Oklahoma Sooners. This final game will determine the Big 12 champion and we will find out who will be worthy of taking on one of the SEC powerhouses.
Many expect the Sooners to win this conference, but I am not so sure with a Cowboys team that plays very similar and can score with the best of them.
4. Wisconsin Badgers (BCS Rank No. 6)
7 of 10The Wisconsin Badgers have always been a team that has pounded the ball and played solid defense. This year they have one of the best quarterbacks in the country in Russell Wilson and have National Title hopes.
This Badgers team will have some tough tests as they play conference rivals in the upcoming weeks. If it was any other season, I would have figured that the Badgers were going to lose at least one game against their conference foes but this season is different.
They have scored at least 31 points in each of their games and boast the no. 1 scoring offense in the nation. Their offensive line could be the best in the country.
Russell Wilson has the type of talent to change the complexion of game and win a lot of them. If they go undefeated and everything falls their way, then look for this team to play against one of the dominant SEC teams in the championship.
3. Oklahoma Sooners (BCS Rank No. 3)
8 of 10The Oklahoma Sooners are just waiting for the matchup between LSU and Alabama so they can supplant the loser of that game. The Sooners are a well-coached team with solid quarterback play from Landry Jones.
This a very good Sooners team, who might be able to break their streak of losing five big bowl games.
I know that this team is looking ahead to the matchup against Oklahoma State but they have to get by Kansas State and Texas A&M. If the Sooners can beat these three highly talented teams, then they will sure to be in the National Championship game.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (BCS Rank No. 2)
9 of 10Alabama has dominated all of its opponents and that includes ranked teams such as Penn State, Arkansas and Florida. This is a team on a mission and the only team that has a chance of stopping the mission is the LSU Tigers.
The meeting between Alabama and LSU will be the true championship of college football and I can’t wait to watch the matchup.
Trent Richardson is what sets this team apart from LSU, Oklahoma and everyone else. He has the talent to break a 3 yard run and make it a 40 yard gain. He is clearly the best running back in the country and will have the same effect that Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram had when Alabama won it all.
Combining one of the best running games and defenses in the country is a clear recipe to win it all.
1. LSU Tigers (BCS Rank No. 1)
10 of 10LSU is still the best team in the country with the best player in the country in Tyrann Mathieu. He is a player that can change the game on the defensive end just as Troy Polamalu does for the Steelers.
Jarrett Lee has played well this season, but he will be looking over his shoulder every game with a talented Jordan Jefferson waiting for his chance. Even though Les Miles has stated that he has no quarterback controversy, I think they do have one and it could hurt them this season.
This defense has playmakers all over the field and can change the complexion of a game. I cannot wait for this defense to take on Alabama’s Trent Richardson later on this season.
Someone needs to prove to me that they are better then this team to be the number one on my list.
