NFL Picks Week 7: Chargers vs. Jets and Sunday's Biggest Showdowns

Eric BowmanOct 18, 2011

The NFL regular season has yet to disappoint, and while Week 7 doesn't look all that enticing, there are still going to be great games.

What we've learned this season in the NFL is that you should always expect the unexpected. Nobody predicted the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers would be doing so well this far into the season, but they're all in the Top 15 of the majority of NFL power rankings.

Week 7 will bring excitement to NFL fans, and here are just three of the games that are must-see matchups.

San Diego at New York

The Jets finally ended their losing streak with a win over the Miami Dolphins on Monday night, but they didn't do so in impressive fashion, which worries several people.

Now the Jets must host the San Diego Chargers off a short week, whereas the Chargers are fresh off a bye. San Diego will be well rested, and they will create a number of problems for Rex Ryan and the Jets.

New York really needs a victory on Sunday afternoon, but this won't be a contest if they struggle on offense. Of course, the Chargers have had their own problems on offense this season as well, and facing a stout New York defense will be no easy task.

Expect a low scoring affair on Sunday with defense being the key in this game. Mark Sanchez needs to show he can win the big games, but Philip Rivers is ready to show the Chargers are over their lull period and they're ready to dominate.

I give the edge to the Jets because they're at home playing a much more talented team than Miami, and their defense will be the difference maker, like always.

Prediction: Jets 26, Chargers 20

Chicago vs. Tampa Bay

The Buccaneers looked as though their season was doomed when the 49ers embarrassed them and LeGarrette Blount injured his knee.

They stepped up big-time to beat their division rival in the New Orleans Saints, and now they host the Chicago Bears, who found new confidence after destroying the Vikings.

Chicago's defense has to prove it can play well on the road this season, and the same really goes for the Bears' offense. The Bucs, on the other hand, need to show that last week wasn't a fluke and that they're here to stay.

Jay Cutler proved last week that if the offensive line protects him he can make great throws and move the ball down the field. The question is, will he have time to think in the pocket on the road?

In the end, I see the Bears elevating their game out in London and stealing a victory with great defensive play.

Prediction: Bears 24, Buccaneers 17

Houston at Tennessee

When Peyton Manning was ruled out for several months, everybody knew the AFC South was going to be won by the Texans.

However, the Titans came out strong to start the season, and Matt Hasselbeck has shown that his career isn't over. Even though they lost Kenny Britt, the Titans still have the talent to make plays and put points on the board.

Plus, Tennessee has a Top 10 defense that will be ready slow down Matt Schaub and Arian Foster. The Titans need Chris Johnson to return to dominance because if they can gain a leg up on the Texans it will give them great confidence for the rest of the season.

The Titans play very well at home, which is why this game will be close, but the Texans will right the ship and end their two-game losing streak with a close win over their division foe.

Prediction: Texans 28, Titans 23
