EPL Transfer Talk: Roman Pavlyuchenko & 6 Players Who Should Leave England

Sam TigheOct 18, 2011

The January transfer window isn't even that close, but the rumour mills are in overdrive with speculation and predictions.

The winter window isn't usually the time teams make a serious effort to bolster their squad; it's more a time to shed the dead weight on the wage bill and clear the roster of those who do not play.

On that note, here are six players who have every chance of departing the Barclay's Premier League this January for an offshore club.

Roman Pavlyuchenko

1 of 7

Roman Pavlyuchenko has had a severely stop-start career at White Hart Lane that may just be coming to a close.

The Russian striker has never found the back of the net with enough regularity to secure a consistent starting spot, and the competition up front this season is fierce.

With loanee Emmanuel Adebayor playing as first-choice striker and Jermaine Defoe playing second fiddle, spots up front still look short despite the departure of Peter Crouch to Stoke City.

Moves have failed to materialise thus far for the Russian, but it seems like only a matter of time.

Habib Beye

2 of 7

Habib Beye represents one of the black clouds of Martin O'Neill's reign over Aston Villa.

Many words have been used by Aston Villa fans to describe him, and none of them have been even remotely positive.

At 33 years old, he currently sucks up approximately £40,000 per week on the wage bill, something Alex McLeish will be itching to fix. He has only made nine appearances since joining the Villains following Newcastle's relegation to the Championship several seasons ago.

Having had no takers over the past season or so of not playing, Beye's destination seems almost certain to be a lower-league French club or something similar.

Bjorn Helge Riise

3 of 7

Bjorn Helge Riise or "The Other Riise" has not had the most successful stint in England with current club Fulham.

He has only mustered 15 appearances for the London club since joining under Roy Hodgson in 2009. He's currently on loan at Championship club Portsmouth, and it's easy to forecast him returning to Norway sooner rather than later.

Brother John Arne Riise has now joined Fulham too, but that probably won't stop Bjorn from taking his leave and cutting short an unsuccessful attempt at a Premier League career.

Marcos Angeleri

4 of 7

Marcos Angeleri has been a poor acquisition for Sunderland despite only costing approximately £2 million.

He's made just three appearances for the club, and he's currently being haunted by an injury. This summer, Steve Bruce moved for Wes Brown and John O'Shea of Manchester United, both able to play at right-back.

It looks as if Angeleri's career at Sunderland is over before it has begun, and he has far from showcased his talents in England.

A return to Argentina beckons.

Mame Biram Diouf

5 of 7

Some Alex Ferguson purchases are genius, and some leave you scratching your heads.

Mame Biram Diouf was a bit of a strange one. He had a very good goal-scoring record for his Norwegian club FK Molde but has been anonymous since his switch to England.

He's only made five appearances for Manchester United, scoring once, and managed only three goals in over 25 appearances on loan at Blackburn Rovers last season.

With Manchester United's front line stacked full of talent, there is no way in for Diouf.

Giovani Dos Santos

6 of 7

Giovani dos Santos' tenure in England has been far from comfortable. He's been shipped out on more loan spells than he will care to remember as he has spectacularly failed to make an impact.

Perhaps part of this fault lies in Harry Redknapp's inability to incorporate the youthful prodigy into his side as, after already acquiring over 50 full caps for Mexico, his talent is not in question.

He stated at the start of this season that he refuses to be a bit-part player, but he has been exactly that, making substitute appearances in the league and the odd cup run-out.

He has taken in loans in Turkey and Spain so far, and I'd bet my house that he's off again in January in a permanent fashion.

Honorable Mentions

This article details six candidates for a move, but there are plenty out there.

Sebastien Squillaci's place in Arsenal's defence looks limited, and Manuel Almunia is impressing no one.

Paulo Ferreira and Hilario of Chelsea haven't played regular first-team football for a long time, and the same can be said of Maxi Rodriguez and Bebe.

There should be a fair amount of weeding out the dead wood in squads this January, and plenty of European clubs are waiting to pick up these cut-price deals.
