BCS Rankings 2011: Ranking the Tailgates of Every BCS Top 25 Team
The 2011 BCS rankings are out, and the rankings were pretty close to what most people expected.
However, how do these same teams stack up when it comes to a much more important subject?
Tailgating...
Do they rate the same as their football teams?
Who will be No.1?
Will there be a tailgate playoff? Not a bad idea really, but for now, we will have to settle for these rankings.
See how your team stacks up.
No. 25: Houston
1 of 25BCS Ranking: No.19
It is a fun atmosphere, but it is nothing compared to other Southern teams.
No. 24: Georgia Tech
2 of 25BCS Ranking: No.22
Georgia Tech, a fun and outgoing atmosphere, but only enough to make No.22 on our countdown.
No. 23: Illinois
3 of 25BCS Ranking: No.23
Illinois enters the BCS Tailgate Rankings at No. 23. Can they move up? After a few lackluster tailgate performances, they are due for a big one.
No. 22: Penn State
4 of 25BCS Ranking: No. 21
Penn State knows how to have fun on and off the field. They have a solid program and a solid tailgate.
No. 21: South Carolina
5 of 25BCS Ranking: No.14
Good atmosphere, great people, amazing food, what's not to like? They know how to party in South Carolina, and they do it right.
Finger licking food and delicious beverages are always a good combination.
No. 20: Kansas State
6 of 25BCS Ranking: No.11
Kansas State has a nice family atmosphere to its game day. They are easy going and laid back for the most part. But one thing's for sure. They take their lawn chairs seriously.
No. 19: Oklahoma State
7 of 25BCS Ranking: No.4
Oklahoma State has an excellent atmosphere and all the fixings. They will feed you, sing to you and ask you to dance, and that's all before 10 o'clock in the morning.
No. 18: Stanford
8 of 25BCS Ranking: No. 8
Stanford has a good tailgate atmosphere, but it's when they bring it indoors that it gets better. They don't need luck to have a party, but they need Luck to keep the party going.
No. 17: Nebraska
9 of 25BCS Ranking: No.13
Nebraska has some interesting folks making camp outside their stadium: a unique blend of crazy, fanatical and just plain silly. Good food, good people, good atmosphere.
No. 16: Oregon
10 of 25BCS Ranking: No.10
Oregon has a decent tailgate atmosphere, but what makes it special is that you never know what you are going to see.
They don't care the weather or the time; they just show up and do something out of the ordinary.
No. 15: Texas A&M
11 of 25BCS Ranking: No.17
Texas A&M is known for their BBQ and their crazy atmosphere.
No. 14: Michigan State
12 of 25BCS Ranking: No.16
They make the list at No. 14 because they don't care about the weather; they show up anyway. Michigan State fans know how to start and keep the party going, no matter how cold it is.
No. 13 Tailgate Ranking: West Virginia
13 of 25BCS Ranking: No.15
They can sing; that is for sure. West Virginia looks good on the field this year, but their fans always look good outside the stadium before it all begins.
They can party with the best of them.
No. 12: Boise State
14 of 25BCS Ranking: No.5
Most people had never heard of Boise State 10 years ago. However, they have been tailgating for many years in Boise, Idaho.
The party just keeps getting bigger and bigger every year. It is an amazing atmosphere with all the trimmings.
No. 11: Auburn
15 of 25BCS Ranking: No.20
Auburn knows how to get it going! These guys party all day and all night. They won't party like they did last year, but it won't slow them down.
No. 10: Alabama
16 of 25BCS Ranking: No.2
Alabama has a legendary tailgate atmosphere. They make top ten on this list.
No. 9: Michigan
17 of 25BCS Ranking: No.18
They know how to grill, they know how to party and they know how to sing. Michigan is the place to be come game day. They put on one of the best parties in all of college football.
No. 8 Tailgate Ranking: Texas
18 of 25BCS Ranking: No.24
Texas has a strong tradition of tailgating excellence. Too bad their team isn't as good as their party. They know how to play games, though, as evidenced in this video.
No. 7: Virginia Tech
19 of 25BCS Ranking: 12
Virginia Tech has a great Tailgate atmosphere, but any team that can legitimately incorporate the "Hokie Pokie" into their party has my vote.
No. 6: Arkansas
20 of 25BCS Ranking: No.9
With the No. 9 ranked team in the country these fans have a lot to celebrate, and it looks like they know how.
No. 5: Clemson
21 of 25BCS Ranking: No. 7
The people at Clemson know how to cook, and they know how to party. This tailgate party is legendary. Between the food, the drinks and the crowd, the only thing better is the game itself.
Sometimes, the game isn't even better.
No. 4: University of Washington
22 of 25BCS Ranking: No.25
The Washington Huskies have one of the most unique tailgates in all of football. Not only do they tailgate, but they also boat gate.
They have the party going on the field, in the parking lot and on the water.
No. 3: Oklahoma
23 of 25BCS Ranking: No.3
Oklahoma knows how to gather a crowd. They know how to play football, too. Their No.3 ranking is well deserved both on the field and at the tailgate.
No.2 Tailgate Ranking: Wisconsin
24 of 25BCS Ranking: No. 6
The Wisconsin folks know how to have a good time. One of the premier teams in the nation also has one of the premier tailgate atmospheres in college football.
Wisconsin hits the tailgate rankings at No. 2.
No. 1: LSU
25 of 25BCS Ranking: No.1
The No. 1 team in the nation also has the No. 1 tailgate party going on. No one parties like the folks in Louisiana.
Of course, it does help to have such a reason to party, but they would party if their team was 0-6 on the year.
But this team is not 0-6; they are undefeated and ranked No.1.
