BCS Rankings 2011: 3 Unranked Teams That Deserve Spot in BCS Standings

Michael MillOct 18, 2011

One of the biggest complaints in the college football world in recent history has been the BCS ranking system.

Things aren't going to change this year.

The first week of the 2011 BCS rankings are upon us and, as expected, there are already plenty of complaints about the order.

Instead of looking at the top of the rankings, we are going to focus more on the bottom.

Here are three unranked teams that should be in the BCS standings.

Arizona State Sun Devils

After Arizona State's overtime victory against Missouri in Week 2, many started proclaiming the Sun Devils to be a dark horse this season.

The following week they fell to Illinois.

Sitting at a 5-2 record, Arizona State is still a solid football team. It has beaten two ranked opponents, and both losses were suffered at the hands of teams also ranked.

How they are ranked behind a Texas team that is 4-2 whose biggest win is against BYU is astounding.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame had a really tough start to the season.

In Week 1 it fell by three points to South Florida. In Week 2 it fell to Michigan by four points.

The Fighting Irish haven't lost since.

This Irish team has fixed the mistakes and has started crushing opponents. It even beat on a ranked Michigan State team, prevailing 31-13.

Maybe there are still some concerns the Irish aren't for real. However, if they do beat USC this weekend, there is no reason for them to remain unranked.

Cincinnati Bearcats

Cincinnati may not be the best team in the nation, but they are better than a bunch of the teams that squeaked into the Top 25.

At a 5-1 record, the Bearcats currently boast an offense that is 11th in the nation in scoring. They have a defense ranked 15th in the nation in points allowed.

The only knock on the Bearcats is they haven't played teams that stand out in terms of difficulty.

Neither has No. 25 Washington, No. 24 Texas, No. 22 Georgia Tech or No. 21 Penn State.

Cincinnati has faced opponents on the same level as these teams and has manhandled them. It deserves a spot over any of the teams mentioned.
