Chelsea FC: 5 Improbable Transfers That Would Help the Blues

Shafat ChowdhuryOct 17, 2011

Before I start this article, I would just like to inform you that this is all based on opinion, and there is no real backing to any of these proposed offers.

So before you shoot at my article with your comment-filled guns, take that into account.

This article is designed to bring up some interesting transfers that could help the Blues if they were to happen.

Keep in mind none of these transfers have sufficient support of ever actually happening, but if they were to miraculously occur, they could aid Chelsea in becoming a better team.

Cesar Azpilicueta: Marseille

"Who the heck is this guy?"

This is what many of you are thinking right now.

Even though Cesar Azpilicueta is not a household name, he can still be a great player for the Blues. He plays as a right back for Marseille and at 22, he is one the best defenders in Ligue 1.

However, that doesn't take anything away from his offensive ability.

He constantly performs overlapping runs and can easily deliver accurate crosses into the box. AVB is reluctant to play Ivanovic as a right back, and Bosingwa is usually weak on defense and unable to whip good crosses into the box.

Couple that with the fact Paulo Ferreira is on the brink of retirement, and Azpilicueta would be a great buy for a new look Blues squad.

Josip Ilicic: Palermo

2 of 5

This Palermo midfielder has it all—great dribbling skills, the ability to find a killer pass, and a wicked left foot. He made a name for himself in Serie A last year, breaking through opposing defenses with former teammate Javier Pastore.

He is a great runner on the ball and since he is only 23, it could be a positive move to bring in a young midfielder for the future.

Also, he is versatile playing in the midfield and he can play on the wings of AVB's 4-3-3 formation.

Stefan Jovetic: Fiorentina

3 of 5

There are whispers that Jovetic might move to the Blues but it is highly improbable for this to happen. Still, this would be a great move, as he can play across the front three and if you really look at the team, Juan Mata is only one authentic winger.

Other players like Sturridge and Anelka have performed well in these positions, even though it's not their preferred position.

That is the difference between those two and Jovetic. The 21-year-old Montenegrin tends to roam around and has pace, trickery, accurate shooting and a wide array of passing skills that make him dangerous on the front three.

While there may be too many strikers for Chelsea right now, players like Kalou, Anelka, and maybe even Drogba could leave at the end of this season.

These moves would easily create space for the Fiorentina hitman.

Daniele De Rossi: Roma

4 of 5

While he may be vice captain of Roma and a son of the eternal city, he has publicly stated he has no problems leaving his lifetime club.

With Essien constantly hurt and the fact he will never return to his prime and with Mikel being only a defensive weapon, De Rossi seems like a great replacement.

Not only does he have an amazing tackle on him, but his overall pressurizing leads to him starting off counter-attacks, whether it be with a long ball or a quick outlet pass to the wings.

De Rossi can easily be the defensive stalwart in the midfield for the Blues.

David Beckham: LA Galaxy

5 of 5

Last, but certainly not least, is David Beckham.

Now, stay with me here, because I'm sure most of you think I've lost it with this one. However, if you look at this a bit closer, you will see there is some method to my madness.

David Beckham may have spent the last few years playing for the LA Galaxy in the MLS, but after the MLS season ends this year, his contract runs out.

With aspirations of gaining a spot back on the England squad for Euro 2012 and the Olympics next year, he realizes he must leave the MLS to play football for a bigger team.

And what bigger team would suit him than Chelsea?

With so many matches in the EPL, Carling Cup, and UEFA Champions League, along with the FA Cup starting during the new year, Chelsea will need more depth in the midfield area.

Especially with Essien out until March and the possibility of more injuries. Also, keep in mind many players go through slumps once they enter the middle of the season, just like multiple players from the Blues did last year.

Certainly a healthy and fresh Beckham would help in this case.

I'm not saying he should start for the Blues because in all honesty he shouldn't, but having a game-changer like him on the bench would certainly help Andre Villas-Boas.

The best thing about Beckham is his ability on the field. He still contains the ability to whip out some amazing diagonal passes, breathtaking crosses, and subliminal through passes.

Just picture Beckham delivering pinpoint crosses into the path of natural born goal-scorers such as Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba.

And definitely do not forget his set piece ability. Within the blink of an eye, he can put the ball into the back of the net from a free kick or deliver a mean ball on corner kicks.

Can you imagine the iconic midfielder along with his royalty-esque family moving to West London, by far one of the most expensive and stylish places in all of the United Kingdom?

It's like a match made in heaven.

There were even rumors two years ago that Victoria Beckham wanted a loft on King's Road and there are pictures of Beckham's kids wearing Chelsea jerseys.

If the former Manchester United man, who was born in London, were to switch over to the Blue side of London, it seems like it would be a win-win for everyone.
