January Transfer Window: Should Arsene Wenger Go for United Starlet Paul Pogba?

The Daily Mirror reports that talented Manchester United youth prospect Paul Pogba's contract is set to expire, leaving him eligible to pursue new offers in the new year.

The news should be appealing to Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.  A swoop for a promising French youngster would certainly be in keeping with Arsenal's transfer policy.

Pogba is a player of immense talent.  The 19-year-old has been given the moniker, 'the new Vieira' by many who have seen him play.

Pogba has the range, power and technique to be a real asset to the Arsenal midfield and make an immediate impact.

He moved to Old Trafford in a highly controversial deal with between United and Le Havre.  Pogba has continued to be highly touted ever since, but has yet to break through into the Red Devils first team ranks.

The retirement of Paul Scholes has not accelerated Pogba's senior level involvement and so far this season, he has been limited to a Carling Cup outing against Leeds United.

Wenger could likely offer Pogba first team inclusion a lot sooner, given his need to add some quality to the Arsenal midfield ranks.

The Mirror speculates that Pogba is seeking improved financial terms. With Arsenal's need for more strength and skill in midfield, the Gunners should seriously consider making an offer.

Wenger's reputation for developing young talent is still strong and this could be used to encourage Pogba that Arsenal is the best place for him showcase his unquestioned talents.

Given Wenger's penchant for giving chances to young players, a player of Pogba's ability could reasonably expect to quickly gain a place in an Arsenal midfield in need of some extra tenacity and drive.
