BCS Rankings 2011: 4 Reasons the Georgia Bulldogs Will Be Ranked by Season's End

Kyle SymesOct 17, 2011

The Georgia Bulldogs have had a rough start to the season.

They not only squandered a chance to impress a nationwide audience by losing to Boise State but also lost a key game in SEC East standings against South Carolina.

Since then, the Bulldogs have quietly strung together five straight wins.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs and their fans should feel optimistic about the team being ranked in the BCS by the end of the season.

1. Florida Gators Have No Bite

1 of 5

The Bulldogs' next game comes against rival Florida.

Florida will likely be without John Brantley and could be without playmaker Jeff Demps again as well. Adding insult to injury is the fact the Gators have lost three straight games with no signs of improvement any time soon.

Beating the Gators, along with a win against New Mexico State, should give the Bulldogs enough momentum to pull out a win against a ranked Auburn team.

2. Aaron Murray

Aaron Murray is putting any thoughts of a sophomore slump to rest. He has been on fire the entire season.

The only bad game he had came against Mississippi State, where he threw for two scores but also threw three interceptions.

The Tennessee game was fairly uneventful for Murray, but he didn't lose the game for his team either. He's thrown two or more TDs in every game but the contest against the Vols.

Georgia will look for Murray to continue the hot streak and keep lighting up the scoreboard.

3. South Carolina Is Hurting

3 of 5

Georgia may be behind South Carolina in the standings, but that could all change after hearing All-American Marcus Lattimore is out for the season.

South Carolina's worst fears came to fruition last week, as Lattimore exited the game early. After Lattimore, South Carolina's leading rusher is Stephan Garcia, who is no longer with the team.

The Gamecocks still have games against No. 9 Arkansas, a Florida team that should have Brantley back under center and finish the season against arch rival Clemson.

Georgia may find itself at the top of the SEC East if South Carolina can't find someone to replace the void left by Lattimore's injury.

4. Two Games Left Against Ranked Opponents

4 of 5

The only way to get ranked in college football other than winning is by beating ranked teams.

Lucky for Georgia, they still have two games remaining against what should be ranked teams.

No. 20 Auburn could still be ranked as long as they don't get blown out by No. 1 LSU. Rival Georgia Tech should be able to rebound from their shocking upset loss and still be ranked in the Top 25 by the final week of the season.

Have a Little Faith Georgia Fans

Just win, baby.

All Georgia has to do is keep winning, and they'll find themselves in the Top 25 on the BCS polls.

The No. 22 to 25 ranked teams are all likely to lose in the following weeks, which leaves room for Georgia to move in.

Illinois, Texas and Washington will do their part by losing, but the Bulldogs need to do theirs and keep stringing the wins together.
