BCS Rankings 2011: Notre Dame and Storied Programs That Will Be Passed Over
As time passes and the BCS standings really start to sink in, it will be easy to realize just which storied programs will be passed over by the system when push comes to shove.
The following programs are some of the most well known in the nation, but they will not being playing for the big-time bowl contention their schools have become accustomed to.
Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish have turned their season around, but their play early on this season was so mediocre that they will not garner the attention the program is used to.
If the Fighting Irish can beat USC Saturday night and run the table until their last game against Stanford, Notre Dame will have their season in their own hands when they face off with Andrew Luck and the Cardinals of Stanford.
Penn State
The Nittany Lions are in a transitional period while they try to figure out what’s going on at the quarterback, and the mess of an offensive system will eventually cost Penn State big.
With five straight games against tough Big Ten competition, there will be no way the sixth-ranked defense will be able to save the 96th-ranked offense.
Texas
After starting the season 4-0, college football know-it-alls said that the Texas Longhorns are back to their old form, but two straight losses to ranked teams shows that they’re more bark than bite.
With three more tough games on the schedule, there is a good chance the Longhorns are on the outside looking in when all is said and done. Oh, how far the mighty have fallen.
