BCS Standings 2011: KSU and 3 Teams Sure to Cause Poll Controversy All Season
The BCS rankings inspire heated debates every college football season, whether a team was underrated or overrated.
Fans yell, pundits bicker, head coaches bristle, players grow determined to prove themselves.
It isn't college football season if the BCS rankings haven't been debated.
Here are three teams who are either given too much credit or not enough.
3. Wisconsin (No. 6)
Wisconsin is ranked No. 6, but I actually think they are underrated. The Badgers have been a more dominant team, on both offense and defense, than Oklahoma State or Boise State, but these programs somehow are ranked No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, in the latest AP poll.
The Badgers are ranked 31st in passing yards per game, seventh in rushing yards per game, first in points per game and third in points allowed per game. They also dismantled then-No. 8 Nebraska, 48-17, on Oct. 1.
I don't know what else Russell Wilson and Co. have to do to be called a top 5 team. Maybe if they beat No. 16 Michigan State next week they'll get the credit they deserve.
2. Penn State (No. 21)
Let me get this straight. Penn State hasn't defeated anyone of significance and have a loss on the season, but the Nittany Lions still find themselves in the Top 25.
They do have a decent defense, but the Nittany Lions are not nearly dominant enough, nor have the track record, to be called a top 25 team.
1. Kansas State (No. 11)
Don't get me wrong, I love a good Cinderella story, but Kansas State beat a Baylor team that has since proven to be unworthy of a Top 25 spot, and haven't defeated anyone else of significance.
How is this team nearly a Top 10 squad?
The Wildcats have a solid rushing attack, but they don't have the passing game, nor the defense, to play with the big boys.
