BCS Rankings 2011: 5 Most Overrated BCS Teams in the Nation

Austin GreenOct 16, 2011

The first BCS poll of the season was just released and, as always, there are a few teams with undeserved rankings.

Because of weak schedules, injuries and lackluster play, these five BCS teams are currently overrated.

5. Boise State

The Broncos are 6-0 but a very weak schedule means they shouldn't be ranked in the Top Five.

They've played just one Top 25 team thus far, beating then 19th ranked Georgia in Week 1. Since then, Kellen Moore and Co. have been bullying teams like Toledo, Tulsa and Colorado State—not exactly football powerhouses.

The Broncos always get screwed over because of their schedule and it will happen again this year.

Until they play some real competition, Boise State shouldn't be ranked this high.

8. Stanford Cardinal

Stanford is very similar to Boise State in that they have a stud quarterback, are undefeated and have yet to play anybody good.

Unlike Boise State, the Cardinal can't use their conference as an excuse.

I know Stanford has yet to lose, but I think it's an injustice that they are ranked higher than Arkansas. The Razorbacks only loss is to No. 2 Alabama and they've registered wins over Texas A&M and Auburn.

13. Nebraska Cornhuskers

The Cornhuskers have been dominant when playing lesser competition, but in their one game against a good team (No. 6 Wisconsin), they got blown out.

That game was touted as the one where we'd "see how good Nebraska really is."

They lost 48-17...

14. South Carolina

The last 10 days or so have been unkind to the Gamecocks. First, starting quarterback Stephen Garcia was dismissed for violating team drug and alcohol rules.

Then, Heisman candidate Marcus Lattimore blew out his knee.

Now, the Gamecocks are completely screwed.

Lattimore was their entire offense, rushing for 818 yards and 10 touchdowns through five and a half games.

Without him, South Carolina has no chance of landing in a BCS bowl.

24. Texas Longhorns

I'm a Longhorn fan, but even I was surprised to see that they were ranked in the first edition of the BCS.

Texas has been beaten at home in consecutive weeks by division rivals Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

They've lost to good teams, but a 55-17 home loss is inexcusable, no matter the opponent.
