BCS Rankings 2011: Oklahoma State, Oklahoma Locks For Top 5 In First BCS Poll
The SEC may be the most dominant conference in college football, but the state of Oklahoma as a whole should be represented rather impressively with the release of the first BCS standings.
When it comes to the Big 12 there is no doubt that Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are the teams to beat, and that's what makes their matchup to end the season so exciting and potentially epic.
There is a good chance that game will determine the winner of the Big 12, but how will it impact the BCS?
There is no doubt that both teams are Top 10 schools, but is it possible we will see two teams from Oklahoma in the Top 5 of the upcoming BCS standings?
Here are my predictions for the BCS Top 5:
5. Oklahoma State
1 of 5The Cowboys are a great team and boast one of the most prolific offenses in the nation.
Quarterback Brandon Weeden has thrown for 2,098 touchdowns, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions so far this season.
I expect those numbers to improve drastically week after week.
They are No. 2 in the nation in passing yards and points scored.
They feature Justin Blackmon—arguably the best receiver in the nation.
4. Wisconsin
2 of 5As long as the Badgers have Russell Wilson under center I have to consider them national championship contenders.
He came in and took their team from a Big Ten contender to a BCS championship hopeful.
This is still the same physically imposing team, but now they feature an explosive offense.
They are first in the nation in points scored, and can do it with Wilson under center, or handing it off to Montee Ball.
Ball is not talked about as much as he should be, considering he has 16 touchdowns so far this season.
3. Oklahoma
3 of 5If there's one thing that hurts the Sooners it's the fact that their schedule is significantly easier than my projected one and two.
Their win against Texas was the feature win of the season so far.
They can jump pack up to No. 1 with wins against Kansas State, Baylor, and Oklahoma State to finish off the season.
Right now it's hard to put them above No. 3.
2. Alabama
4 of 5The Tide have the best defense in the nation bar done, and that allows them to have the ability to beat any team at any time.
Not only that but they have running back Trent Richardson.
He looks to be well on his way to Heisman consideration with 912 yards and 15 touchdowns so far this season.
They've had big tests against Penn State, Arkansas, and Florida which they've passed with ease.
Their matchup with LSU in a few weeks will determine a lot about the SEC and BCS.
1. LSU
5 of 5LSU has the most well-rounded team in the country, which makes them the most dangerous team.
Their defense was the catalyst at the beginning of the season, but the offense has grown into form and may be on par now.
They've played the toughest schedule in the nation and have looked impressive in all of their wins.
