BCS Standings 2011: Why LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma & Wisconsin Are Strongest Top 4
The first batch of 2011 BCS standings will feature an array of contenders and pretenders. LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma and Wisconsin will make up the top four teams in some order.
These four teams are contenders, and have been absolutely dominant through seven weeks of the 2011 college football season.
LSU has arguably been the most dominant, and has the resume of a No.1 team in the BCS standings. The Tigers have four victories against Top 25 opponents, including two huge non-conference victories over Oregon and West Virginia.
Alabama has three victories over Top 25 teams. One of which came out of conference in Week 2, with a victory over Penn State. The Crimson Tide do not have the airtight resume of the Tigers, but their dominance isn't far behind, if at all, at this point.
The Sooners do not have the resume of either the Tide or the Tigers, but they have been very good thus far. Two victories over Top 25 opponents, including a Week 3 victory over then-No.5 Florida State.
The Wisconsin Badgers are the most surprising among these four teams. The addition of N.C. State transfer Russell Wilson has given Wisconsin's offense a dimension their offense has never had before. The Badgers have beaten every opponent by at least 30 points this season. This includes their victory over Nebraska.
These four teams have shown explicit dominance over the rest of the college football field this season. All four have won all of their matchups, and have done so in a decisive fashion.
At this point, these four teams are head and shoulders above the competition. Alabama and LSU are on a level of their own.
Obviously, the BCS picture could change drastically by the time the final regular season games are played.
Through seven weeks, these four teams could be viewed as the best top four teams in BCS history. LSU's incredible dominance over a stacked schedule, and Wisconsin is creeping up on record-breaking dominance depending on their Week 8 performance against Michigan State.
If the current trend continues, these four teams will be remembered as the most dominant group of teams at the top of the BCS since its inception in 1998.
