College Football Conference Realignment: Boise State Must Join the Big East

Quotes like this prove Boise St. president Bob Kustra is confident in his university's overall popularity:

"

In 2011, nobody cares (about our TV market). No matter when we play, people will show up and turn us on television. This national fan base is what is making us this powerfully incredible team as we wrestle with this conference realignment.

"

That is a great recognition of the growing fan base, but the reality is, the Broncos need better conference affiliation to continue to grow.

Without joining another conference, they will be forced to play an insanely difficult non-conference schedule every year to have a legitimate shot at a national championship. That is the level the football program has grown to.

When Kustra was asked if he has been contacted by the Big East, he had this to say:

"A couple times I’ve heard from them and we’ve listened carefully as they’ve explained what their trying to do and we’re going to sit back and see where they're going." 

Kustra indicated he had not assured the Mountain West Conference the Broncos would be staying, but he has yet to receive an invitation from the Big East. Although, it makes zero geographical sense, joining a major conference will add even more legitimacy to the program.

It is obvious, geographic uniformity is not a goal of the college football conferences. They are primarily interested in stacking major teams in a small group of conferences. This is further accentuating the haves or have not culture that makes college football the uneven playing field it is today.

Still, the day the Broncos join the Big East will be a Blue-tiful day for both parties involved.
