Marcus Lattimore Injury: Where Does It Rank Among This Season's Biggest Losses?
South Carolina's star running back, Marcus Lattimore, was knocked out of today's win at Mississippi State with what looked like a pretty serious knee injury.
It's been reported that the injury is a severe sprain, and he will be out for a lengthy period of time.
This is a severe blow to the Gamecocks' SEC title hopes, but it is certainly not the only injury suffered this season.
So where does it rank in a list of the biggest losses this season?
Read on to find out.
E.J. Manuel
1 of 7Russell Wilson he isn't, but Manuel was the best option at QB heading into the season for the 'Noles.
His shoulder injury during their loss to Oklahoma put a damper on the national title talk in Tallahassee when it was followed up with three straight losses.
While Clint Trickett filled in admirably, he does not have the athletic ability of Manuel, and it has been obvious at times.
This is still a good team, but they are definitely better with Manuel at the helm, and it shows...
John Brantley
2 of 7Brantley may not be the best quarterback in the conference, but he was the best option Will Muschap had to go with.
His injury seriously hinders this Florida offense, which was just starting to gain some traction before they ran into LSU...minus Brantley.
Now, it's likely the Gators will still make some noise in the SEC, even with an inexperienced starter, but Brantley will be missed.
Knile Davis
3 of 7Davis led not only the Razorbacks, but the entire SEC in rushing in 2010.
He was poised for another big season this year before he was sidelined for the season with an ankle injury during fall practice.
The Razorbacks' rushing game has suffered, coming up with only 129.3 yards per game his season, a definite product of Davis' absence.
LaMichael James
4 of 7It's looking as if LMJ won't play tonight against ASU.
Even though his elbow injury does not appear to be as bad as it looked, it will limit him for at least this week.
While he is definitely the best player on that Oregon team, Kenjon Barner is an apt replacement, and the Ducks have plenty of talent to keep their running game going strong.
Tyler Bray/ Justin Hunter
5 of 7This duo were two of the most exciting players in the SEC before they both went down with injury.
Bray has a fractured thumb, while Hunter is out for the season with a torn ACL.
The Vols are obviously missing both these guys against LSU today, and these injuries effectively end any shot they had at an SEC East title.
Jared Crick
6 of 7Nebraska has been giving up way too many yards to keep the Pelini brothers happy as it is.
The loss of Crick is a blow to a defense that can't seem to stop anybody.
Crick was projected to be one of the top tackles in the country, and was a game-changer.
The Huskers are still pretty talented, though young on defense, but without Crick, teams will gash their middle even worse than they have been.
Marcus Lattimore
7 of 7It has not been a good couple of weeks for South Carolina.
First Melvin Ingram went down, albeit briefly, then Stephen Garcia was dismissed from the program.
They managed a win today in Starkville, but it came at a bitter cost: Marcus Lattimore went down with a severely sprained knee, and will be out for some time.
This program, which was on the verge of big things and is one season removed from playing in the SEC title game, is going to go downhill fast from this point.
