BCS Rankings 2011: Nebraska and 5 Overrated BCS Teams
When the BCS rankings come out, there are going to be an absurd amount of undeserving and over-hyped teams littering the top 25.
Impressive starts against terrible teams and flashes of brilliance may have fooled voters, but by the end of the season, we'll recognize these teams as the over-hyped teams they are.
Here are five overrated teams who will be ranked in the initial BCS rankings.
Nebraska
1 of 5Nebraska may have been able to muster a victory against Ohio State, but Nebraska continues to put their vulnerabilities on display.
In their first-half struggles against Fresno State, their blowout loss against Wisconsin and their up and down performance against Ohio State highlight just how inconsistent Nebraska is.
Adding salt to their wounds, star defensive tackle and preseason All-American Jared Crick is out for the season.
With Michigan and Michigan State still on the schedule and a number of trap games lying ahead of them, Taylor Martinez's struggles throwing the football will force the Huskers out of the top 25.
Texas
2 of 5One blowout loss to Oklahoma shouldn't take Texas from a Big 12 contender to a team not worthy of even being in the rankings, but essentially, it did.
Texas barely escaped BYU and hasn't beaten anyone worth mentioning. Once Oklahoma State hangs over 50 points on Texas, we'll realize just how bleak Texas' future is this season.
Their first four wins are going to get progressively harder and harder to point to as the season goes on.
Georgia Tech
3 of 5Georgia Tech is one of the most exciting teams in the country to watch, but until they are presented with a challenge, it's hard to take them seriously.
Maryland was able to limit them to 21 points, and once they really get into the tough stretch of their schedule, their high-octane offense won't be able to bail them out.
Georgia Tech squares off against Clemson, Virginia Tech and Georgia. All three of those games give them an opportunity to really make a statement, but a more likely scenario is that we look back at their opening 6-0 record as a farce.
Texas A&M
4 of 5Texas A&M isn't on this list because they have two losses—they're on it because of the fashion in which they lost.
In their losses against Oklahoma State and Arkansas, they jumped out to huge leads and then choked down the stretch.
They face a ruthless Big 12 schedule and can't afford to pick and choose when they are going to perform. They're currently up by three on Baylor, but by no means are they a lock to maintain their lead.
Their inconsistency in the second half is going to come back to haunt them all season long.
Virginia Tech
5 of 5Virginia Tech's only loss was to Clemson. Even so, they're signature win came when they narrowly escaped Miami at home.
Too often, we see teams overrated because of the impressive records they obtain against a cupcake schedule. Virginia Tech is such a team.
Their weak ACC opponents shouldn't put up too much of a fight, but somewhere along the way, VA Tech is going to slip up.
Georgia Tech won't be the only loss they see this season, as they already find themselves battling for wins that should be gimmes, given how high they are regarded by voters.
