BCS Rankings 2011: 4 Unranked Teams We Suspect Will Still Make BCS Noise
With the release of the years first BCS rankings coming tomorrow, people will take a look at the positioning that certain teams have, who is too high and who got snubbed.
While not being on the first rankings isn't a great position to be in, it is not something that is impossible to overcome.
Here is a look at four teams around the nation that, while unranked now, will still be making noise in the BCS later in the season.
San Diego State Aztecs
1 of 4So you're looking at this and saying how in the world is San Diego State going to impact the BCS rankings? The answer is simple, think Nevada.
Last year, Boise State took on Nevada late in the year and, as the conversation naturally started to turn to Kellen Moore and the Heisman and if Boise State could get in the title game, Nevada snuck up on the Broncos and took them out of the race.
This year, the Broncos head on the road late in the year and will face an Aztecs team that has the talent to compete and beat Boise State.
Georgia Bulldogs
2 of 4After a slow start to the year, the Georgia Bulldogs have responded with four straight wins and are looking to make it five today against Vanderbilt.
There are a couple reasons that the Bulldogs will impact the BCS rankings.
First, the Bulldogs will take on teams like Auburn and Georgia Tech, who should be on the opening rankings. For those two teams, losses would hurt their own chances of a BCS game.
Second, do not sleep on the possibility of Georgia running the table and having a chance at winning the SEC East. With the recent dismissal of Stephen Garcia at South Carolina, who knows how the Gamecocks will do the rest of the way?
South Florida Bulls
3 of 4While not currently in the rankings, South Florida looked as good as any team in the Big East until they failed to show up for their game at Pittsburgh.
If the Bulls are able to get back on track and get consistent play from their defense, they should run the table into their home game against West Virginia, where the conference title and BCS spot could be up for grabs.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
4 of 4After a 0-2 start to the season, Notre Dame is another team that is picking up steam quickly and has won four straight games.
Next week, the Irish take on USC and if they can earn a victory in this game, they should be able to win out going into their final game against Stanford.
As we all know and as history has shown us, the BCS loves a good Notre Dame team, even if it comes in with two losses and other teams ahead of them.
