3 BCS National Championship Matchups We Don't Want to See Come January
The last game of the college football season is supposed to be exciting, historic, or at least have some kind of intense storyline. Last year, we had two coaches in their second year reaching the Championship in addition to Cam Newton's talent and alleged back room deals.
We as Americans always want a more juicy story. We hate seeing repeats and drama is almost a must have, especially in something as big as the National Title.
Since the new BCS rankings came out just a few hours ago, we can see multiple big headlines already popping out at us. However, in this slide show we're taking a look at which three headlines we don't want to re-read when January rolls around.
Oklahoma vs. the SEC
1 of 3Under Bob Stoops, the Sooners are 1-3 in bowl games against SEC teams. In the 2009 BCS National Championship, Tim Tebow and Florida Gators defeated the Oklahoma Sooners with ease.
OU fans have been waiting for Stoops to take them back to the top after his 2001 Championship, but Oklahoma has lost not one, or two, but three times since. In two of those losses, once in 2009 and the other in 2004, SEC teams were the poison that stole the title from the Sooners.
If Oklahoma reaches the elusive title game again this year, they might as well just go ahead and give it to Alabama or LSU. It will save us all the trouble of watching the game and seeing OU fall again.
If former Heisman award winner Sam Bradford can't pull it off, then Landry Jones doesn't seem like he'll be able to either. The SEC has dominated the Sooners as of late. Watching a replay with a different SEC uniform isn't going to be very entertaining.
Oklahoma vs. Boise State
2 of 3The 2007 season didn't get off to a great start either for the Sooners. Boise State, the team that literally no one had heard of, came out of nowhere and defeated a strong OU team in overtime. The Statue of Liberty play that won the game for the Broncos will go down in history as the play of the year.
Fast forward four years and literally everyone knows who Boise State is and what they are capable of, especially Bob Stoops and the Sooners. If Boise State gets the National Championship chance that has seemed unreachable to them for so long and Oklahoma is their opponent, count me out.
The entire storyline will be based on revenge or something petty such as that. Oklahoma will either fall apart in this game or run all over the Broncos. Neither result appeals to me.
Wisconsin vs. Stanford
3 of 3This is not a National Championship game. This is a Rose Bowl match up. The Cardinal and the Badgers are both great teams with a lot of potential, but honestly seeing both in Championship would mean a lot went wrong above them.
Wisconsin is smart and scores a lot of points. Every game is a blowout which means that a game against an SEC team would actually be pretty good.
Stanford has the top Heisman candidate in the nation in Andrew Luck. They haven't played anyone ranked yet, but Oregon comes to town soon and that will be the test.
With teams like OSU, OU, Alabama, LSU, and Boise State all ranked above both of these teams, seeing that much go awry in the SEC, the Big 12 and the MWC would be almost insane. This game is the perfect Rose Bowl, but the National Championship is not on the table for this matchup.
