BCS Rankings 2011: Why Wisconsin Should Be Ranked Higher Than Oklahoma

Nicholas GossOct 14, 2011

When the first BCS rankings of the 2011 college football season are unveiled next Sunday, the Wisconsin Badgers deserve to be ranked higher than the Oklahoma Sooners.

Why? The Badgers are a better team on both sides of the football and have the best quality win between the two schools.

Not only is Wisconsin third in the nation in points per game (48.4), they are also third in the nation in points allowed per game (10.2).

Wisconsin can also beat you in many different ways.

Quarterback Russell Wilson is a dynamic player who can beat opposing defenses through the air or with his legs, and rarely turns the ball over.

As a team, Wisconsin is fifth in the nation in rushing yards per game with 242.6.

Oklahoma has the fifth-best passing attack, led by Heisman Trophy candidate Landry Jones, who is one of the finest quarterbacks in the country.

However, their rushing offense doesn't scare anyone, and if a defense can find a way to contain Jones and keep him in check, Oklahoma will struggle to score points on the ground.

In terms of quality wins, Oklahoma's best wins were all against overrated teams. Texas was overrated, which is why they were out of the preseason top 25, and Missouri is not a top team either.

Florida State was ranked No. 5 when the Sooners beat them early in the season, but the Seminoles have lost again since that meeting and don't look anything like an elite team.

Wisconsin's best win was against a quality Nebraska team. Not only did the Badgers beat the Corn Huskers, they dominated them 48-17.

Not only is Wisconsin a better all-around football team than Oklahoma, the Badgers' quality win is better than Oklahoma's.

When the first BCS rankings come out, Wisconsin should be No. 3 behind LSU and Alabama.
