Updated Heisman Trophy Odds: Andrew Luck Falls to Third

Randy ChambersOct 14, 2011

The Heisman Trophy is the most prestigious award in college football. Win it and your life will change forever, as you enter a group of elite players.

Before entering every season, everybody throws out several players who have a chance at winning the award. Some are favorites and others are dark horses who have an outside shot if they are able to play to their potential.

The reality is, there are many talented college football players, but only a handful have a chance to win the Heisman.

Bodog.com has recently released their updated odds on who the favorite to win the award is. The odds may surprise you.

Let's take a look at Bodog's favorites to win the Heisman and break all the players down.

Baylor Bears QB Robert Griffin

1 of 10

Player name: Robert Griffin

Last game stats: 73 percent of his passes completed, 212 passing yards, one passing touchdown; 107 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown

Next game on schedule: Baylor at Texas A&M

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 25/1

I believe that Griffin has the lowest odds because of the team he plays for and the schedule they have played so far. The loss against Kansas State didn't help either.

Regardless of all that, you can't deny his league-leading 80 percent completion percentage and 21 total touchdowns to only one interception.

The schedule for Baylor really now opens up as they play a brutal seven games which include four ranked teams. If Griffin can continue to play the way he's playing and lead the Bears to some major upset wins, his odds should improve over the weeks.

Oregon Ducks RB LaMichael James

2 of 10

Player name: LaMichael James

Last game stats: 239 rushing yards, eight yards per carry and one touchdown

Next game on schedule: Arizona State at Oregon

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 25/1

These odds are about right and I think he should even be below Robert Griffin.

LaMichael James really hurt his Heisman stock in the first game against the LSU Tigers where he rushed for a lousy 54 yards. It took an even bigger hit last week when he went down with an arm injury, and now his future is in question.

James is having a solid year, but with the lack of big stages for the Ducks and the injury, any chance of him winning the Heisman may be gone.

South Carolina RB Marcus Lattimore

3 of 10

Player name: Marcus Lattimore

Last game stats: 102 rushing yards, four receptions, 14 receiving yards

Next game on schedule: South Carolina at Mississippi State

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 15/1

Marcus Lattimore got off to a fast start and became an early frontrunner to win the award, but in the last three games his production has really gone down. In the last three games combined, he has run for 245 yards and three total touchdowns. That's not going to get it done.

The Gamecocks still have a couple of big games left against Arkansas and Clemson, but unless Lattimore steps it up big, his odds will continue to decrease.

Oklahoma State QB Brandon Weeden

4 of 10

Player name: Brandon Weeden

Last game stats: 85.7 percent completion percentage, 288 passing yards and five passing touchdowns

Next game on schedule: Oklahoma State at Texas

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 12/1

These odds are fair and have a great chance to improve as long as the Cowboys keep winning.

Weeden has really moved into the dark horse position to win the award. He has the second highest completion percentage in the country at 75.8. He has thrown for the fourth most passing yards at 1,880 and has 15 touchdown passes. The only thing he needs to work on are his six interceptions.

With Oklahoma State playing four ranked teams and a huge matchup at the end of the year against Oklahoma, Weeden could end up becoming a serious contender.

Michigan Wolverines QB Denard Robinson

5 of 10

Player name: Denard Robinson

Last game stats: 337 passing yards, two passing touchdowns; 117 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns

Next game on schedule: Michigan at Michigan State

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 8/1

These odds are a little high in my opinion.

I get that Denard Robinson is a very exciting and popular player, but his nine interceptions to 10 touchdown passes is a major turn-off. Sure, he runs the ball well (720 rushing yards) and helps lead his team to victories, but he is also the reason his teams almost lose games as well.

If Robinson continues his turnover ways, I don't even see him getting an invite to New York.

Boise State Broncos QB Kellen Moore

6 of 10

Player name: Kellen Moore

Last game stats: 74.2 percent completion percentage, 254 passing yards and three passing touchdowns

Next game on schedule: Boise State at Colorado State

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 7/1

Moore has the fifth highest completion percentage at 74 percent and has thrown 17 touchdowns. He has thrown for over 250 yards in every game but one this season.

The only problem is the schedule the Boise State Broncos play and that will be the one thing that holds him back. While other players on this list are playing the top teams week in and week out, Boise is playing UNLV, Wyoming and Colorado State.

Moore will get an invite simply because his team will likely go undefeated, but the chances of him winning are slim.

Alabama Crimson Tide RB Trent Richardson

7 of 10

Player name: Trent Richardson

Last game stats: 107 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown

Next game on schedule: Alabama at Ole Miss

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 6/1

Richardson has the fifth most rushing yards in the country, with 729. He is also third in the country with 11 rushing touchdowns and has one receiving touchdown.

Although his numbers are better than the majority of the running backs in the country, they could be a lot better, since he only has 115 rush attempts. It seems like Alabama is saving him for when they need him most later in the season, as the Crimson Tide are thinking about an SEC title and a National Championship.

These odds are fair, but he still has a lot of work to do to win the award. A fourth place finish is where Richardson will likely finish.

Stanford Cardinal QB Andrew Luck

8 of 10

Player name: Andrew Luck

Last game stats: 370 passing yards and three passing touchdowns

Next game on schedule: Stanford at Washington State

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 4/1

These odds are probably the most interesting, because most considered Luck the favorite to win the award. Many disagree, but I am not one of them.

Luck has put up solid numbers this season. He is completing 73 percent of his passes, has thrown for 1,383 yards and has thrown 14 touchdown passes. But he has yet to play a real team this season as Stanford hasn't come close to a ranked team this year. And he doesn't have that Heisman moment yet to convince voters.

Many consider Luck the favorite because he's the most popular player, but it's not about that. The Heisman should go to the best player who has proven the most throughout the season.

So far, Luck hasn't been that guy.

Wisconsin Badgers QB Russell Wilson

9 of 10

Player name: Russell Wilson

Last game stats: 255 passing yards, two passing touchdowns; 32 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown

Next game on schedule: Indiana vs Wisconsin

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 3/1

Russell Wilson has to be the favorite this season.

He has taken a decent Wisconsin team and put them over the top to the point where they are National Championship contenders. His 74.8 percent completion percentage is third best in the country. He's passed for 1,391 yards and has 15 total touchdowns. He's also only thrown one interception.

You can argue that Wisconsin has a weak schedule, but if they run the table they'll end up beating at least five ranked opponents.

If the season ended right now, Wilson would get my vote.

Oklahoma Sooners QB Landry Jones

10 of 10

Player name: Landry Jones

Last game stats: 367 passing yards and three passing touchdowns

Next game on schedule: Oklahoma at Kansas

Updated Heisman Odds from Bodog: 3/1

Jones has the same exact odds as Russell Wilson as the favorite for the award.

He has thrown for the fourth most passing yards with 1,814 and has 13 touchdown passes. He is also completing a solid 69 percent of his passes. The only thing I have a problem with are his five interception passes. That's a lot more than most of the quarterbacks on this list.

Although if Jones can continue to put up the sexy stats and lead his Sooners to the National title game, he'll get an invite and be a strong candidate.

Regardless, I'd still put Wilson over him.
