BCS Rankings 2011: Boise State and Teams That Will Get Screwed in the Rankings

Michael MillOct 13, 2011

We are slowly but surely getting closer to the release of the BCS Rankings for the 2011 college football season.

That means we are also slowly getting closer to people across the nation screaming about how stupid the rankings are.

Each and every year there are complaints about the system. There are always a couple teams that seem to get an unfair ranking based on the computer codes.

Here are five teams likely to get screwed in the initial release of the BCS rankings.

No. 5: Wisconsin Badgers

1 of 5

There is a part of me that believes that the Wisconsin Badgers may actually be the best team in college football.

Obviously the SEC fanatics feel different. Only time will tell. Unfortunately for the Badgers, the BCS loves the SEC. Wisconsin simply doesn't have the strength of schedule that teams like Alabama and LSU do.

Forget the fact that they have the third ranked scoring offense (48.4 points per game). Forget the fact that they have the third ranked scoring defense (10.2 points per game).

They play in the Big Ten and have only played against Nebraska. Don't be surprised to see the Badgers slighted in the original release of the rankings.

No. 4: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

2 of 5

Georgia Tech won't be able to match up against top talent like Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma. That said, they still deserve a ranking around the 10  spot.

Chances are they get a ranking much lower than that. The Yellow Jackets have averaged 46.5 points per game. They have one of the most ridiculous offensive attacks I've ever seen.

The triple option has destroyed opponents both on the ground and through the air. It's rare that the option can be so successful when passing.

Although they are 6-0, the argument will be that they haven't played any tough opponents.

No. 3: Oregon Ducks

3 of 5

The Oregon Ducks are a very talented offensive team. Sitting at a 4-1 record, they likely won't break the top 10 in the initial BCS Rankings.

The team's one loss came against the top ranked LSU Tigers. Other than that, their toughest opponent has been Arizona.

A win against Arizona State this weekend may help, but likely not enough to put them in the top 10.

For a team that is second in the nation in terms of scoring, and has one of the most exciting players in LaMichael James, it's a shame they won't be represented in the BCS rankings early on.

No. 2: Stanford Cardinal

4 of 5

Stanford really hasn't gotten as much media attention as they deserve this year. Sure, Andrew Luck gets a lot of attention, but Stanford as a team hasn't.

They boast the No. 7 scoring offense in the nation with Luck at quarterback. What people fail to realize is that they also have the sixth best scoring defense. Despite this, they aren't making headlines.

The reason? They have played San Jose State, Duke, UCLA, Arizona and Colorado. The BCS rankings recognize this lack of strength in the schedule as well.

No. 1: Boise State Broncos

5 of 5

It's hard not to feel bad for Boise State. In 2006 they shocked the world by going 13-0 and beating Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Since then the team has gone 10-3, 12-1, 14-0 and 12-1.

They have yet to see a National Championship game. This year they are sitting at 5-0 with a very good chance to finish the season with a 12-0 record.

On top of that, this is likely the most talented team that the Broncos have ever had. It doesn't matter. The Broncos are destined to be screwed by the BCS rankings.

There is no way this team gets a shot over LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Clemson, Oklahoma State, Stanford, Michigan, Georgia Tech or any other team in a major conference.

At the end of the day, for the Broncos to even have a chance, every other team needs to lose.
