BCS Rankings 2011: Nebraska and Top Pretenders Who Won't Last in Top 25

Kyle VassaloOct 13, 2011

The initial BCS rankings will feature a few teams who have no chance at remaining in the top 25. While they've gotten off to a hot start, these teams can't possibly maintain the high level of play they've put forth to kickoff the season.

Here are pretenders that won't last in the top 25.

Nebraska

People are jumping off the Nebraska bandwagon like it's on fire, and rightfully so. Though they beat Ohio State in the biggest comeback in program history, it's clear teams have cracked the code to slowing the Huskers' offense. Keep Taylor Martinez in the pocket and Nebraska is vulnerable.

Though they shouldn't see another embarrassing rout like the one they experienced against Wisconsin, they haven't seen their last loss of the season. Nebraska looks worse every time we see them, and a rough end to their season is clearly right around the corner.

Houston

Houston has looked overly impressive thus far. The problem is, they've played nobody worth mentioning. Their high-octane passing assault is easy to drool over, but torching Georgia State at home doesn't necessarily mean Houston is a Top 25 team in the nation.

Though they don't have any daunting matchups ahead of them, their narrow victories over UCLA, Louisiana Tech and UTEP highlight the vulnerabilities over the team. SMU is just one of the teams who could easily dispose of Houston and reveal their shortcomings to voters who want to believe in Houston.

Texas

After Texas finishes out their season against a brutal Big 12 schedule, they are going to be lying in the fetal position in a pile of losses. They were punished last week against OU and, though the Sooners are one of the best teams in the nation, the 55-17 beat down put Texas' vulnerabilities on full display.

Texas mopped up a soft schedule to start the season, but with Oklahoma State, Missouri, Kansas State, Texas A&M and Baylor all lying ahead, Texas has no chance at finishing the season ranked. They may be able to steal a few games, but winning the Big 12 is absolutely out of the question.
