Projected BCS Rankings 2011: Boise State and Other Teams with No Shot at Title

Richard LangfordOct 13, 2011

Boise State can win the rest of their games by 50 points and they won't get a shot at the National Championship. The top of the poll is too loaded with undefeated teams this year. The national championship game is likely going to feature the winner of the LSU vs. Alabama.

If it is not those two then there are other teams from the power conferences that will make it. Wisconsin has a fairly easy path to going undefeated. If Oklahoma loses it will likely be to Oklahoma State. In that scenario, Oklahoma State will most likely be undefeated.

Here is the run down on Boise State and two other top teams with no chance at the title game.

No. 5 Boise State

Boise State does not currently have one team on their schedule that is in the top 25. They needed Georgia to dominate after they beat them and that is not happening.

Boise State is almost guaranteed to go undefeated, but yet again be on the outside looking in at the end of the year.

No. 11 Michigan

The Big Ten is horrible this year. That is good news for Michigan in that they have a great shot at going undefeated, but bad news in that they are going to find it impossible to get into the top two.

They have yet to defeat a team in the top 25 and they only have three games upcoming against ranked teams. They play Michigan State, Nebraska and Illinois.

They will get a shot to notch an impressive win against Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game, but this team can't beat Wisconsin and even if they do, they will not be able to leap enough teams in front of them.

No. 9 Oregon

Oregon's hopes of making the championship game were shot when they lost in the first week. They are the highest ranked team with one loss, but—as I said above—this championship game is going to feature undefeated teams.
