College Football Week 7 Predictions: 5 Teams About To Exit the Top 25

Johnathan CaceOct 12, 2011

This weekend in college football will be the most important one yet, because the first BCS rankings come out Sunday.

Not only are there some major conference games to keep an eye on, but there are four games between ranked opponents as well.

Some teams will get a big boost heading into the BCS rankings.

But others will drop out of the Top 25 with a loss.

Here are five of those teams.

Michigan State Spartans

1 of 5

If the Spartans can beat in-state rival Michigan this week, they will look pretty good in the BCS.

But their 18-point loss to Notre Dame will definitely hurt their cause.

Next week, Wisconsin comes to East Lansing and unless Michigan State magically develops an offense, there is next to no chance they can pull off that upset.

A loss to the Wolverines and Michigan State is done in the rankings for a while.

Beat Michigan but lose to Wisconsin, and the Spartans are probably still out of the rankings.

Baylor Bears

2 of 5

The Bears are in a similar predicament to Michigan State, but they need a defense, not an offense.

Baylor goes on the road this week to take on a Texas A&M team coming off two blown games and an unimpressive five-point win over Texas Tech.

They can top the Aggies in College Station, but it won’t give them much credit.

Then, they go on the road to Oklahoma State and that should end up in a Baylor loss.

Even if they can beat A&M on the road, Baylor will likely drop out of the rankings after playing the Cowboys.

Texas Longhorns

3 of 5

The Longhorns got absolutely demolished by Oklahoma last week, and now they have to take on Oklahoma State.

They get the Cowboys at home, and Mack Brown has a 13-0 record in the week following the Red River Rivalry.

Still, Texas has just not shown enough offensively to keep up with Oklahoma State.

The Longhorns are currently No. 22 in the AP Poll, and a loss to any team will drop them out of the rankings entirely.

Even if that team is as good as Oklahoma State.

Arizona State Sun Devils

4 of 5

The voters have not been kind to Arizona State, and considering how poorly Missouri has played this season, they won’t get much help from the computers.

The Sun Devils go to Eugene to take on No. 9 Oregon, and there is probably no way they can remain ranked with a loss to the Ducks.

And a loss is extremely likely.

Arizona State is just 2-8 in road games the past two years, and Autzen Stadium is one of the toughest places to play in the country.

Don’t expect them to be ranked in the next few weeks.

Auburn Tigers

5 of 5

Auburn is in for a tough matchup against Chris Rainey and Florida this week.

But even if they beat the Gators, they won’t get much credit because Florida is not ranked.

The following week, the Tigers go on the road to take on LSU and they don’t have a realistic chance of winning that game.

Auburn may stay ranked after defeating Florida, but there’s little chance they will be ranked in two weeks.
