The surprising Wake Forest Demon Deacons are playing host to the Virginia Tech Hokies this week in a huge ACC matchup. 

Both teams need the win to get into or remain in the Top 25 Polls and have a chance to appear in the first BCS rankings that will come out next week.

TE Eric Martin, QST (Shoulder): This isn’t a big deal for the Hokies, as Martin is the third string tight end and only has one catch this season. If he returns, it will be in his usual backup capacity.

NG Ramon Booi, DBT (Knee): The junior sprained his MCL last month and will most likely miss this game. He was expected to be a major contributor, but this injury has kept him sidelined.

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

This game has huge implications for the Top 25 polls and potentially the BCS.

Virginia Tech is currently ranked 19, while Wake Forest is unranked but sitting just outside.

If Virginia Tech wins, they have a good chance to move up, but if they lose, they will most likely fall out. It would also end any hope they have to make a BCS bowl this season.

If Wake wins, they are without a doubt going to be moved up into the Top 25. This would be a huge deal for a program that no one took seriously in the preseason.

These are two one-loss teams going against each other in an ACC battle that will definitely be fought hard on both sides.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are a surprisingly good this year and cemented that status with a big win against No. 23 Florida State this past week.

Virginia Tech is attempting to make up for their loss against Clemson two weeks ago and get another winning streak going to save their season.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch notes that Logan Thomas had a historic day against the Miami Hurricanes last week.

“First-year starting quarterback Logan Thomas played the game of his life against Miami: 23-of-25 passing, 310 yards, three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.

He became the first Tech quarterback to have more touchdown passes than incomplete passes (minimum 10 attempts) since Michael Vick, who did it twice in 1999.”

Edward G. Robinson III of the NewsObserver pointed out exactly how the Demon Deacons beat Florida State and will need to hope to repeat in order to crush Virginia Tech.

“Wake Forest did enough defensively to hold off the Seminoles , forcing five turnovers, including a timely fourth-quarter interception. Yet its balanced offense - 391 total yards - deserves credit for producing the most points ever scored by the Deacons against FSU. Sophomore quarterback Tanner Price threw for 233 yards and three touchdowns. Josh Harris and Brandon Pendergrass combined for 180 yards rushing."

Virginia Tech Player to Watch: Logan Thomas

The converted 6'6" former TE turned QB is the reason why Virginia Tech is even ranked this year and has been playing better and better as the season goes on. He is going to be a nightmare to contain on Saturday.

Wake Forest Player to Watch: Tanner Price

This kid was the catalyst for the upset over Florida State and will need to be perfect to beat a second ranked opponent.
