BCS Rankings Predictions 2011: Updated Predictions for the Major Bowls

Randy ChambersOct 11, 2011

We may only be entering Week 7 of the college football season, but it's never too late to project the bowl games. The college football bowl season is one of the best postseason events in all of sports and provides 35 great matchups from the middle of December to the beginning of January.

The most important bowl games of them all are the BCS bowl games, which consist of five bowl games: Orange, Sugar, Rose, Fiesta and, of course, the National Championship.

Here are the updated projections of who will participate in the five major bowl games this season.

Rose Bowl: Wisconsin Badgers vs. Stanford Cardinal

1 of 5

How Did I Get This Matchup?

Wisconsin looks like they are by far the best team in the Big Ten, and I like Stanford over Oregon with LaMichael James out.

If this matchup actually happens, is there any way for the Heisman presentation to be presented after this game? Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck against Wisconsin quarterback Russell Wilson—what a treat.

This game would be one of the few tests for both teams this season, but should be a great game nonetheless.

Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Michigan Wolverines

2 of 5

How Did I Get This Matchup?

The Fiesta bowl gets the No.1 Big 12 team, and the way things are looking right now Oklahoma State will be just that. They also get the first at-large bid of all the bowl games, and who in their right mind would turn down Michigan and a player as exciting as Denard Robinson?

This game would be full of offensive firepower with the Weeden-to-Blackmon connection and, of course, No. 16 for Michigan.

I hope you're not a fan of defense, because in this matchup there won't be much of it.

Sugar Bowl: LSU Tigers vs. Boise State Broncos

3 of 5

How Did I Get This Matchup?

The Sugar bowl gets the No. 1 SEC team, which would be the LSU Tigers, while Boise State would be an at-large bid.

Oh boy, this matchup would probably be one of the most interesting of the entire bowl season; the Tigers' stifling defense against the Broncos' solid offense.

Hopefully this game isn't like when Hawaii played Georgia a few years ago. I guarantee you, Kellen Moore has yet to face a defense like this in his career.

Orange Bowl: Clemson Tigers vs. West Virginia Mountaineers

4 of 5

How Did I Get This Matchup?

Clemson is looking like the favorite to win the ACC, while West Virginia will get the last at-large bid from the Big East.

This would be another great quarterback matchup in West Virginia's Geno Smith and Clemson's Tajh Boyd. Both of these teams are very similar with their speed, especially on offense.

Much like the Fiesta Bowl, don't expect much defense in this one.

National Championship: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

5 of 5

How Did I Get This Matchup?

These two teams will be the No. 1 and the No. 2 teams in the country in the final BCS rankings.

So you're complaining about these bowl matchups having no defense, huh?

Well, the best game of them all should have plenty for you, as these two powerhouses square off for all the marbles.

Both of these teams combined give up an average of 22.6 points per game. That's better than 75 Division-I teams by themselves.
