College Football Picks: Week 7 Games the Oddsmakers Have Wrong
Week 7 marks the true midpoint of the college football season, and although this weekend doesn't feature a lot of truly intriguing match-ups for the common fan, there are a ton of great games to look at if you like to wager a few bucks every now and then.
Here’s a look at three spreads to consider examining further if you’re planning on making some plays this weekend.
LSU (-15.5)
1 of 3What it should be: LSU (-10)
Tennessee's Matt Simms going up against the LSU defense?
That’s a formula for disaster, right?
Not so fast, my friends.
The Tigers are due for a letdown game at some point before they take on Alabama on Nov. 5, and this could be just the spot.
Yes, it’s hard to trust Simms against that ferocious defense, but Derek Dooley and his staff proved last year that they know exactly how to scheme for the Tigers.
With Tyler Bray out, this could be the week in which the Volunteers finally focus on the running game and get talented senior back Tauren Poole going.
Tennessee doesn’t have the right pieces to pull off the upset, but they do have enough willpower to make this one closer than it might look on paper.
Texas A&M (-9)
2 of 3What it should be: Texas A&M (-14)
Baylor’s Robert Griffin III was the September star of college football, but it could be time for the dual-threat quarterback to come back down to Earth for a bit.
The Bears failed their first road test of the season at Kansas State, and they won’t fare much better at Kyle Field this Saturday.
This Texas A&M team is much better than what they’ve shown so far, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Mike Sherman’s squad use this game to make a statement.
If the Aggies get going on offense early, its going to be a long day for the Baylor defense.
Oregon (-16)
3 of 3What it should be: Oregon (-10)
We know that Oregon will miss star running back LaMichael James in their game against Arizona State this weekend, but what we don’t know is how much.
The Ducks still have plenty of offensive firepower. Guys like Kenjon Barner and De’Anthony Thomas should be able to step right in and pick up the slack, so I wouldn’t expect too big of a drop-off.
What I’m more concerned about, though, is Oregon's defense, which currently ranks 83rd in the country.
Arizona State QB Brock Osweiler has been one of the most underrated quarterbacks so far.
Osweiler and RB Cameron Marshall could give the Ducks some fits on Saturday.
I don’t know if the Sun Devils can do enough to pull off the upset, but it certainly wouldn’t surprise me if they did.
