January Transfer Rumours: Top 5 Stories of the Day

Michael CummingsOct 11, 2011

The clock keeps on ticking. January is less than three months away.

The transfer window will be back soon. For now, clubs around Europe are starting to find themselves in the news for their supposed wheeling and dealing in the pre-transfer window market.

Is any of it true? Who knows?

We'll find out in January.

But, for now, following the rumours is a great way to pass the time.

Javier Hernandez to Real Madrid

1 of 5

Javier Hernandez is the real name of Chicharito, the Mexican forward who had a breakout season for Manchester United last term.

He scored 21 goals last year for the Red Devils. Now, according to reports, Real Madrid wants him.

The fee would reportedly be £30 million. Chicharito, who is making a reported £25,000 per week at Old Trafford, would earn £150,000 per week at Real.

Chicharito signed with United in 2010 for £6 million.

Ashley Cole to Anzhi Makhachkala

The Sun is claiming that Ashley Cole is the latest target of big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Supposedly, they want to pay Cole £200,000 per week. That seems like a lot of money for a 30-year-old defender.

Anzhi's player-coach Roberto Carlos has recommended Cole as his successor at left-back, and he has put Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka, Arsenal's Robin van Persie and Santos' Neymar on his "wish-list," according to The Sun.

He told The Sun, "If Real, Barca or Manchester United cannot pay the transfer fee, we will pay it. Suleyman Kerimov can offer what he wants."

Ashley Cole to Barcelona

In its own "EXCLUSIVE," the Daily Mirror is claiming Barcelona wants Ashley Cole.

The Mirror reckons the price tag is about £12 million and that Cole is a summer target.

What the heck? Why not?

And why not just make him a January target?

Liverpool After Swiss Starlet

4 of 5

The Daily Mirror is really getting after it today.

Here's another "EXCLUSIVE." This one claims that Liverpool are lining up a bid for 15-year-old Swiss starlet Nicholas Hunziker.

"[Liverpool manager Kenny] Dalglish's spies have sent back rave reports on the 15-year-old, who netted a hat-trick for his country's youth team on his debut," according to the Mirror.

"Hunziker has not yet signed pro forms with FC Basle, and the Anfield club will try to sort out a move shortly," the Mirror reports.

Eden Hazard to Sign with Someone

Finally, we have this story from the Daily Mirror, which claims that Belgian midfielder Eden Hazard is finally ready to move from Lille.

Hazard has long been a reported target of Arsenal and Liverpool. In today's story, his agent confirms Arsenal tried to sign him in the summer.

Now, though, Barcelona is also interested.

Word is that Hazard is ready to quit Lille next summer. We think that if it's true, Lille will want to sell early to get something in return for their young star.

Hazard's agent, John Bico, told the Mirror, "Eden has matured in every aspect. Perhaps next summer will be the moment to leave in search of the biggest challenge."
