Texas A&M Football Recruiting: Aggies Land JUCO Running Back Marion Grice

Michael TaglientiOct 10, 2011

According to ESPN, the Texas A&M Aggies received another football commitment today when Blinn Junior College running back Marion Grice gave his verbal pledge today.

Grice is a 6'0", 210-pound sophomore at Blinn who has rushed for 603 yards and nine touchdowns on only 80 carries this season. Grice has led the Buccaneers to an undefeated 5-0 record this season. As a freshman in 2010, Grice led the Bucs with 1,169 yards rushing on 160 carries and 17 touchdowns.

In 2010, Grice averaged 7.3 yards per carry, while this year he is averaging 7.5 yard per carry with legit 4.5 speed in the 40.

Grice is a big back who would fill a big need for the Aggies as they move into the Southeastern Conference. The average running back in the SEC is right around 220 pounds and Grice fits that mold.

There is some concern that junior running back Christine Michael may leave for the NFL a year early. With the graduation of Cyrus Gray, the Aggies would be devoid of experience at the running back position.

Grice will offer a nice complement to incoming freshman Trey Williams, who is one of the top high school running backs in the nation. It is unfair to ask an incoming freshman to carry the rushing load against SEC defenses and Grice will take some of the pressure off of Williams.

If Michael decides not to test the NFL waters, the Agiess have a some very nice depth at the running back position in their first year in the SEC.

Grice is the 22nd verbal commitment of the Aggies 2012 recruiting class. Grice picked the Aggies over offers from Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Kansas State.
