College Football Rankings: Michigan Wolverines and 3 Teams That Must Win Week 7

Eric BowmanOct 10, 2011

Six weeks into the 2011 college football season, there are still a number of teams that need to prove themselves against some quality opponents.

A few teams will get a second chance in Week 7 to show they can hang with the tough opponents, while some teams have their first true test.

Every week is a must-win, but sometimes different weeks are more important than others. Here are three teams that cannot afford to lose in Week 7, or else they're done in the rankings.

Michigan Wolverines

Currently No. 11 in the country, the Wolverines will hit the road for the second straight week. This time, they will be playing their arch rival, the Michigan State Spartans, whom they haven't beaten since 2007.

In fact, the last two years Michigan has been undefeated heading into this game, but the Spartans came away victorious, kick-starting the Wolverines downfall in the process.

Michigan proved this past week that it could play well on the road after a nice comeback win over Northwestern, but it will be much harder to win against the Spartans should the Wolverines dig themselves into a hole.

If the Wolverines fall then they can kiss their hopes of the BCS good-bye.

Texas A&M Aggies

The No. 20 Baylor Bears come into town for the No. 21 Aggies this Saturday, and really this is a must-win game for both teams.

The Aggies barely scraped by the Texas Tech Red Raiders last week, needing to recover an onside kick to hold onto the lead. The Bears had an impressive win over Iowa State, but after losing to Kansas State two weeks ago, they need to prove they can beat another tough, ranked opponent.

Expect a high-scoring affair on Saturday between these two teams, because they both have great offenses. Baylor would love to beat the Aggies one last time as conference foes before Texas A&M heads to the SEC, but the Aggies defense should prevail.

The loser of this game will be out of the Top 25, and since the Aggies have two losses already, their season will be pretty much over with if the Bears beat them.

Auburn Tigers

Despite two losses, the Tigers are ranked at No. 24, but they cannot suffer another loss, especially to another SEC team.

A third loss will put the Tigers out of the Top 25 for quite some time—perhaps even the remainder of the season, given how hard Auburn's schedule is.

The Florida Gators come into town in Week 7, and the Tigers should win this game considering the fact that the Gators are struggling at the quarterback position.

However, the win is no guarantee, because Florida is still have a very talented team, and the Tigers defense has been struggling quite a bit this season.

Auburn has to win on Saturday to have a chance to win the SEC and maintain a strong spot in the Top 25.
