College Football Recruiting: The Biggest Busts from the 2010 Recruiting Class

Edwin WeathersbyOct 10, 2011

Well, it's been about two years now since the class of 2010 arrived on campus, and some have shown already that they will be excellent players.

Then there are some who already we can see have not lived up to the hype—thus far. While there is still plenty of time to impact their programs in the way we thought, the following players are creeping into Bustville, USA.

So far!!

3. Malcolm Jones, RB: UCLA

The great 2009 and 2010 Bruins recruiting classes have amounted to nothing, and I could have put a lot of other players from those classes here other than Jones.

Jones was a five-star recruit in 2010, as a RB prospect. He chose to head to UCLA, which, and I mean no offense to Bruins players, is a black hole for talent.

Jones just has not made a big time impact for the Bruins so far, and has yet to be able to consistently take away carries from Jonathan Franklin or Derrick Coleman.

2. Jake Heaps, QB: BYU

Heaps got better last year as the season went on. In fact, down the home stretch and in the Cougars' bowl game, he flashed why he was so highly touted.

Yet, this season has seen him be pretty much ineffective for the most part, and Heaps was even benched last week.

There's still time for Heaps to come into his own, but right now, based on his skill set, even if Heaps plays well for BYU going forward, I still only see him being a backup type in the NFL.

1. Dillon Baxter, RB: USC

Baxter looks like a bust. A huge bust. The Reggie Bush comparisons need to stop now, as he isn't Joe McKnight right now.

First of all, he has made some questionable off-field decisions that led to him being temporarily ineligible last year.

He has gone from making that overrated YouTube run in spring practice last year and Lane Kiffin saying he may be the best player on the Trojans team, to pretty much not even being a factor in the RB rotation in Troy.

Lastly, from a scout's perspective, it's clear as day to see that Baxter lacks the long speed to rip off long runs on a consistent basis, and it takes him a step too long to get going.
