BCS Projections: 5 Bold Predictions For Ranked Teams in Week 7
Another week, another lackluster Saturday of college football.
When are we going to get some upsets?
The best teams are stomping opponents, and it's making this season somewhat forgettable.
The only AP top 25 team to lose to an unranked opponent in Week 6 was No. 23 Florida State Seminoles.
Big deal.
I’m here to tell you why everything is about to change n Week 7. In fact, five ranked teams look incredibly vulnerable heading into Saturday.
How many of them will actually lose?
Here are five games to keep on your radar this Saturday.
1. No. 11 Michigan Will Lose First Game of the Season
1 of 5The Spartans enter this game with a lot of positive momentum after beating Ohio State a week ago. With the bye to rest up, the Spartans are going to be extremely prepared for Michigan.
I believe their bulk up front will really give QB Denard Robinson fits, and the result will be poor decisions and off-target throws.
The Spartans have the second best defense statistically for a reason.
With the offense struggling, the fragile Wolverine defense cracks, and Kirk Cousins moves the ball rather easily.
Prediction: Michigan State 27, Michigan 21
2. No. 18 Arizona State Gives No. 9 Oregon All They Can Handle
2 of 5The No. 18th-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils are beginning to work their way up the polls because of impressive balance.
Normally only known for their offensive brilliance, the Sun Devils are quietly giving up 19.5 points a game, 22nd in the country.
They will have their hands full against an Oregon offense that is consistently one of the top units in college football.
But things are different this week.
Potential Heisman candidate LaMichael James dislocated his elbow against Cal and his status for ASU is completely up in the air. It would be a colossal blow for Oregon if James can’t go. He’s the catalyst for the offense and the guy who makes everything easier for his QB.
Without him, the Ducks are going to struggle staying balanced—something Arizona State can take advantage of. It’s pretty hard to replace a guy who has averaged nine yards per carry.
With the ESPN "College Gameday" crew on hand, the Ducks get a scare of a lifetime before QB Darren Thomas saves his team in the fourth quarter.
Prediction: Oregon 36, Arizona State 34
3. Wake Forest Will Knock Virginia Tech out of the Polls
3 of 5Wake Forest quietly has a strong football team.
They thoroughly outplayed Florida State in every facet of the game and will now be playing a Virginia Tech team that is clearly experiencing a down season.
Wake’s QB Tanner Prince is leading an offense that is 19th in the nation in passing, and the sophomore has seven TDs and just two INTs.
Expect him to torch a Hokies secondary that has really struggled the last two weeks.
V-Tech keeps it close behind a strong performance from their dynamic duo in the backfield, but it’s not enough.
Prediction: Wake Forest 31, Virginia Tech 27
4. Maryland Shocks No. 8 Clemson
4 of 5I’m big on Clemson, in fact I think they will win the ACC.
But they won’t be leaving College Park with a win.
The knee injury of QB Tajh Boyd is devastating, and it completely changes the offense. The playbook gets cut in half if Boyd can’t play on Saturday, which means they’ll have to depend on Andre Ellington in the running game.
I expect the Terps, who played some terrific defense last week against Georgia Tech, to shut down the run and dominate the time of possession battle.
A few big plays by the Terps' quick strike offense with QB Danny O’Brien is enough to pull off the upset.
Prediction: Maryland 21, Clemson 20
5. No. 24 Auburn Gets Knocked out of the Polls for Good
5 of 5After weeks of toying with us, it’s become clear that Auburn is not a very good football team.
The defense is atrocious, and the offense can’t keep up.
The Florida Gators are dealing with lots of issues on offense, but the defense is still one of the best in the nation. Only 12 teams in the country currently give up less points than the Gators despite already playing Alabama and LSU.
Expect that to be the difference in this minor upset.
Prediction: Florida 27, Auburn 21
