BCS Poll 2011: 5 teams That Will Be Happy On Oct. 16

Dan VastaOct 9, 2011

The time is almost here as the very first BCS rankings are just one week away. Everybody always awaits the first standings to see which sleeper stands in case they run the table, but there are always a few under the radar teams that come out of nowhere to crack the Top 10 (Hello, Clemson).

There are five teams that will have a great chance of cracking the Top 10 and possibly the Top 5. I break down and name my five teams that will be pumped once the rankings come out next weekend.

Clemson Tigers

1 of 5

The Tigers have a great shot at cracking the Top 6 in next weekend's BCS rankings. Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins and Tajh Boyd have been one of the best trio of stars in the entire country.

They are simply unstoppable, and with their upcoming schedule I question if anybody can slow this offense down.

Clemson is currently eighth in the polls, but I expect them to pass either Stanford or Boise State. Worst case scenario, they just remain in the Top 8, but in time Clemson will continue to surpass teams if they remain undefeated.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

2 of 5

The Cowboys offense has put on fireworks to say the least in recent memory. They spanked Kansas 70-28 with Brandon Weeden playing less than a full half.

Their receivers are the best in the country and nobody on the schedule can stop these Cowboys until they run into Bedlam against the Sooners.

Oklahoma State's defense has a few next level players in Broderick Brown and Shaun Lewis who have lit up the opposition this season.

Not only can the Cowboys crack the Top 10 in the BCS rankings, but they could crack the Top 5 without Boise State and Stanford having played any legit teams as of late.

I would bank on the Cowboys remaining serious threats for not only a BCS bowl as an at-large bid, but possibly as a threat to play in the BCS National Championship if they can knock off those mighty Sooners at season's end.

Boise State Broncos

3 of 5

While I could make the same case for the Badgers of Wisconsin, I love the chances of Boise State to be neck and neck with Wisconsin.

Boise State thumped what in my eyes is a Top 20 Georgia squad whereas Wisconsin beat a legit Top 20 in Nebraska as well.

However, the Badgers next great opponent would be Northern Illinois! Yikes that is awful.

Boise State at least has beat up Tulsa, Nevada and a solid Toledo team who got hosed against Syracuse earlier in the season.

My eyes tell me Boise State can score a billion points on the Badgers defense, though Wisconsin could have the same argument. However, the Broncos front four is spectacular with Billy Winn, Chase Baker, Shea McClellin and Tyrone Crawford.

They thumped Fresno State 57-7 on National Television and could not even pass the Badgers? Luckily they did gain a ton of points which could end up being the difference in the first BCS standings. If they continue to thump their teams we could be slowly looking at the very first non-automatic qualifier to play for it all.

O, hail to the Smurfs!

Michigan Wolverines

4 of 5

Hate to say I told you so, but Michigan is back and better than ever. I had them inked for 10 victories, but they might just win more. Dare I say they win 11, perhaps 12, games!?

Michigan State, Ohio State, Illinois and Iowa are not exactly the best teams in the world. So, don't be shocked to see Michigan crack the Top 10 in the latest rankings. (Note: Illinois will benefit in the ranking almost as much as Michigan)

Also, I would honestly not be stunned if they were to go 11-1 going into the Big Ten Championship.

Denard Robinson went off in the second half against Northwestern combing for 400 yards and four touchdowns. The defense pitched a shutout after trailing at halftime, and their 42-24 victory was a signature win in the Brady Hoke era. Next weekend against Michigan State could springboard them into winning their division.

If they can continue to pull out wins with a stout defense up front, they could even perhaps run the table in the regular season. That would certainly stun the landscape of college football, but I am telling you to expect nothing but the best from this current Wolverine squad.

Arkansas Razorbacks

5 of 5

Tyler Wilson might be the hottest quarterback in the country right now. The kid is throwing for a ton of yards in primetime games early on in the season.

Save their tough result against Alabama, I would bank on Arkansas to crack the Top 12 in the very first BCS rankings. They may be right there with Oregon and they are both comparable with their high-octane, explosive offenses.

They have a huge test at LSU in the regular season finale, and if they can knock off South Carolina at home in a few weeks I would bank on them eventually cracking the Top 10.

Wooo Pig Sooey!
