College Football Recruiting 2012: The Most Overrated and Underrated Recruits

Edwin WeathersbyOct 9, 2011

For this I'm just going to give you a quick run down of a couple of recruits that I think are overrated or underrated.

So I'm going to give you both the most overrated and most underrated recruits in the country. You may disagree, agree, or scratch your head. But hey, it's just my opinion.

Starting up now.

Overrated: Jarron Jones, DT

1 of 4

I like Jones very much. But even Rivals has this guy all the way down in the 60s. Scout has him inside their top 25, and he's a 5-star recruit.

Jones is committed to Notre Dame and is a good DT. Yet, now many are saying there is a chance he could play LT.

I'm just not sure he's a 5-star guy as a DT.

Underrated: Travis Blanks, DB

2 of 4

The only thing keeping me from moving Blanks way up in my DB rankings is I'm not sure if I should list him as a safety or corner. He wants to play CB, but safety may be his best spot.

The Clemson commit is a 6'1", 195-pounder with excellent athleticism, size, speed, transition quickness and loves to support the run. He had over 100 tackles as a junior and uses his length to bully WRs in press coverage on the flanks.

Not sure why he doesn't get more love.

Overrated: Zach Banner, OT

3 of 4

Banner, in my opinion, is a right tackle. He struggles with speed and quickness as a pass protector, and you just can't have that as a left tackle prospect in your scouting report and evaluation.

He needs to short-set mostly to be able to latch his big and heavy hands on a defender and win with strength. He's very athletic for his size, but I'm not sure he's a LT.

Having him in the 30's is rich for my blood by Rivals; I think he belongs in the 50s or 60s.

Underrated: Jabari Ruffin, LB

4 of 4

Ruffin is a 6'4", 235-pound monster. He's got size, length, athleticism and toughness.

But he's not even in the Scout.com top 100, so he easily makes this list at this specific slot.

Not sure what Scout.com is missing or not seeing, but a big, mobile and athletic LB that can man the SAM spot or even play TE is welcome on my team any day of the week.
