College Football Rankings: 5 Teams That Will Break into the Top 25 in Week 7

Adam SpencerOct 9, 2011

The USA Today Top 25 Poll saw some big changes this week.

Three teams (Florida, Florida State and Auburn) fell out of the Top 25, allowing three previously-unranked teams (Houston, Baylor and Penn State) to get into the rankings.

Some of these teams are sure to lose this week, allowing more teams to jump into the rankings.

So now, let's take a look at five teams that might be ready to jump into the rankings if a team slips up this weekend.

5. USF Bulls (4-1)

1 of 5

The Bulls got absolutely demolished by Pitt a couple weeks ago.

But, coming off a bye week, they have a good chance to get back on track this week against Connecticut.

The Huskies have lost to Western Michigan, Vanderbilt and Iowa State already this season, so the Bulls should be able to pull off an easy victory.

4. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-2)

2 of 5

The Irish are hot right now. They've won four straight games, including last week's 59-33 offensive showcase against Air Force.

Now they have a bye week. If a couple ranked teams falter this week, the Irish could jump into the Top 25 without doing anything.

Then they'll have a tough test in USC if they want to keep that momentum going.

3. North Carolina Tar Heels (5-1)

3 of 5

The Tar Heels have an outside shot at the ACC title with the way they are playing right now.

If they can beat Miami on Saturday, they have a chance of jumping into the Top 25.

And, with an offense led by QB Bryn Renner and RB Giovani Bernard, they can hang with anyone in the ACC.

2. Washington Huskies (4-1)

4 of 5

Washington probably won't stay in the Top 25 for long if they make it after this weekend; they have a shot to get into the rankings with a game against Colorado.

But then they still have Stanford, Oregon and USC on their schedule, so it doesn't look good for them sustaining a ranking for more than one week.

1. Georgia Bulldogs (4-2)

5 of 5

After a 0-2 start, Mark Richt has his team playing really well lately.

The Bulldogs have won four straight games and have an outside shot of winning the SEC East.

And they don't have to play Alabama or LSU this season, so they have a chance to do some big things this year.

If they win against Vanderbilt this week, they should jump into the Top 25.
