Liverpool FC: 4 Recent Blunders That You All Know About

Jake RoddOct 9, 2011

Over the years Liverpool fans have been prone to ups and downs, if you ask me, it's called sporting bipolarism. For example, the 2008-9 season was a fantastic one for everyone involved with Liverpool Football Club: The club finished second and made a great Champions League run. The very next season, Liverpool finished five places lower. FIVE places lower.

But there have been other disasters in Liverpool history, and this article will focus on the more recent blunders from the last couple of years. Let me rephrase that—they're all from last season, funnily enough.

Feel free to comment, enjoy the read.

Christian Poulsen

When Christian Poulsen first signed for Liverpool, I was expectant. Then I saw him play. It comes as no surprise that when Poulsen finally moved on I felt as if Christmas came early. Six months early.

The defensive midfielder was everything he shouldn't be. He lacked composure, flare and the general ability to really compete with the plethora of midfield options available to Kenny Daglish. His finest hour came against West Ham, which doesn't really mean much when you consider the terrible run the London club were on.

So, there's number one for you. I daresay it gets worse. Brace yourselves.

Roy Hodgson

2 of 4

This man holds the record for the shortest serving manager in Liverpool history. That, and the incapability of pronouncing the letter "R" have earned him his place on this list.

During his time at the helm of Liverpool, Hodgson managed only a 43.1 percent win rate. The form was unacceptable and as a result of a steady stream of uncertainty on the pitch, Liverpool actually spent time in the relegation zones. For a club of Liverpool's calibre, that's unacceptable, and won't happen again.

Joe Cole

3 of 4

In a nutshell the reason Joe Cole is on here for me is just because I had such high expectations of him when he arrived. In a nutshell, he is the epitome of Roy Hodgson's reign as manager. He put in the effort, but was simply not good enough.

Steven Gerrard said that Joe Cole could do things that Messi couldn't, so to see Cole's performance levels nose dive was just horrible to witness.

Lille have taken him off the wage-bill thankfully, and it's great—and horrible at the same time—to see his performance levels surge again away from Anfield.

Pepe Reina's Bal Drop against Arsenal

4 of 4

It would be the second one on this video, but for those of you who don't remember, it was the first game of the season, last minute, leading one-nil, and the usually-so-reliable Pepe Reina makes that mistake. It could have been so different.
