Auburn vs. Arkansas: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Tigers Must Make

Nick YokoyamaOct 8, 2011

Pretty great half so far, as the No. 15  Auburn Tigers take on the No. 10 Arkansas Razorbacks. The Tigers are looking to stop the No. 1 passing offense in the SEC led by QB Tyler Wilson and WR Jarius Wright.

Here are five halftime adjustments the Tigers must make if they want to leave Razorback Stadium with the upset.

1. Red Zone Defense

Coming into today's game Arkansas was 20/20 in the red zone with 15 TDs. Although the Tigers were able to force the Razorbacks' first unsuccessful red zone trip of the season, they need to continue to step up near their goal line and not allow TDs.

2. Big Hits on Wilson

The Tigers need to put Arkansas' QB Tyler Wilson on the ground. Wilson has been battered in the Hogs' last two games against Alabama and Texas A&M, and Auburn must dial up more pressure packages to unleash big hits on the Razorbacks' QB. If the Tigers can't put pressure on Wilson, he will continue to pick apart Auburn's secondary at ease.

3. Ground-and-Pound

The Razorbacks' run defense was punished last week against Texas A&M. Look for the Tigers to keep pounding the run in the second half. Auburn should attempt to get McCalebb more rushing opportunities on the outside, while setting up Dyer through the middle for big gains.

4. Set the Pace

The Tigers need to keep running the no huddle and quick snaps in the second half. On their two scoring drives Auburn was very successful in dictating the pace and running their hurry-up offense. If the Tigers want to win this game, they need to keep Arkansas' D on their heels and keep rhythm on offense.

5. Safety Help Over the Top

The Tigers need to make sure they don't get beat deep. The Hogs' QB Tyler Wilson has been able to pick apart Auburn's secondary for long gains with play-action. The Tigers must make sure they have help over the top so Jarius Wright and Wilson can't connect on a big play.
