Oklahoma Football: How Would Sooners Match Up with Alabama or LSU in BCS?

To answer the question posed in the title, let's put it this way: Not well.

The Sooners have thus far escaped unscathed, but the two SEC monsters, particularly LSU are on another level.

For one, if this game is not played in Norman, Landry Jones will struggle.

And against defenses that play with incredible ferocity and discipline, his struggles would be magnified.

Have you seen the LSU defense?

It's scary good.

Their speed in the secondary and at linebacker would negate the Sooners' usual advantage on the outside of the field, and that D-line has been solid all year.

Les Miles has proven this season that he knows how to win and use his defense effectively.

Sure, they gave up a massive amount of yards to West Virginia, but they took away the run game, something they would be able to do against the Sooners, as well.

Oklahoma struggled against FSU for crying out loud, a team whose defense is much less stout than either one of these, and both LSU and Alabama have had much more productive offenses than FSU.

Jarrett Lee, the Tigers' quarterback, has shown the ability to be more than a "game-manager" and has filled in his role taking over for Jordan Jefferson admirably.

I think after the Sooners face some of the Big 12's upper crust, we might have a better feel for this one, but for now, there is no doubt that Landry Jones and company would have a tough time.

Bob Stoops' squad is a good team, and would give Alabama more trouble than LSU, but they would be clearly outmatched in a BCS title game against either one of these teams.

By the way, that FSU team the Sooners beat has now lost three games, and their only wins are against Charleston Southern and ULM...
