BCS Rankings 2011: LSU and 5 Teams That Will Contend for Title
It is crowded at the top of the polls. The top eight teams are all undefeated, and all worthy of first place votes.
Figuring out which of these teams will be there at the end of the year is no easy task.
The LSU Tigers are enjoying a well earned spot atop the BCS rankings. They definitely are legitimate contenders for the national championship.
Read about them and four other teams that have shown they are good enough to separate themselves from the rest of the pack and be in a position to win the national championship.
LSU
1 of 5LSU is a complete team. Their defense is as good as it gets this side of the NFL gridiron. And there offense is getting better each week.
That offense is going to just keep getting better.
Jarrett Lee is growing into this offense and turning their passing attack into a legitimate threat. They also now have Jordan Jefferson back and will be able to incorporate him to add another dimension to the offense.
They have a huge showdown with Alabama in Alabama on November 5th. I expect LSU to pull out that game in a close one.
So, sorry Tide fans. There will be no Alabama in this slideshow.
Wisconsin
2 of 5For my money, Wisconsin is the most complete team in college football. They can run the ball. They can throw the ball, and they can stop you in any way you try to attack them.
Right now they are second in points allowed and third in points scored.
They also have a schedule that sets up for them to waltz to an undefeated record. A game with No. 19 Illinois is the only contest remaining against a team currently ranked in the top 25.
Boise State
3 of 5Boise State is on a fantastic run of consistent success, and this is their best team yet.
This squad does not have a weakness. Everyone knows about Kellen Moore and their tremendously efficient offense, but what doesn't get enough press is their defense.
Boise State went into Georgia and held an explosive Bulldogs team to their lowest output so far this season.
Boise State won't have to do much to go undefeated, but that is their biggest problem. They are going to need some teams to lose if they are going to have a chance to play for the title.
Oklahoma
4 of 5Oklahoma is 5-0 and they have still dropped two spots in the polls. That trend will not continue.
Oklahoma has a challenging schedule ahead of them that culminates with a regular season finale against No. 6 Oklahoma State.
I expect the Sooner to win that game. They have almost as explosive offense and Oklahoma State and a far better defense.
Oklahoma has the horses to win it all.
Clemson
5 of 5Clemson is the biggest surprise on this list. They have come out of nowhere to earn their top 10 ranking. They have three consecutive wins over to 25 teams and their defense appears to be getting better in each one.
Their offense has had the firepower to compete with anyone, and with their defense rounding into form this team has a serious chance to win it all.
They only have two ranked teams left on their schedule. They could easily run the table.
