Miami vs. Virginia Tech: 5 Halftime Adjustments the Hokies Must Make
What a half so far as the Miami Hurricanes take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. Today, the Hokies look to get back on track and rebound from last week's disappointing performance.
Here are five halftime adjustments Virginia Tech must make if they want to leave Lane Stadium with the win.
1. More David Wilson
The Hokies have had early success today with Logan Thomas and the receiving corps. Thomas has had a monster half through the air and on the ground, but the Hokies should try to get Wilson more touches in the second half. Wilson is a beast of a RB and Miami is 104th in rush defense in the nation. Look for Wilson to break out and punish the Canes in the final half.
2. Bring Constant Pressure
The Hurricane's O-Line cannot handle the Hokies' pressure. In the second half VT should continue to bring the blitz and wear down Miami's front four. Canes' QB Jacory Harris has rarely been sacked this season, and the Hokies need to put him in the ground to force errant throws.
3. Step Up Containment
VT's secondary needs to keep Miami's WRs inside. They must focus on keeping the Canes contained and not getting beat for a game-changing play. Miami's screen plays have also been successful early. To stop this, VT must wrap up at the line of scrimmage.
4. Give Logan Thomas Time
Miami seemed to only want to rush their front four in the first half. If the Hokies continue to give QB Logan Thomas time, he will easily be able to pick apart the giant holes in the Canes secondary.
5. Keep Up Third Down Success
In last week's frustrating loss against Clemson, the Hokies performed miserably on third down. If they want to finish this ACC battle with the win, they must keep producing positive yards on early downs and converting on third.
