BCS Rankings Predictions: Shocking Surprises To Watch For in Next Week's Ranking

Josh SchochOct 8, 2011

A crazy Week 6 in college football is going to lead to some big surprises in the poll next week, with top teams dropping and others scraping by.

Week 6 hosted a plethora of much-anticipated games, including the Red River Rivalry, No. 17 Florida at No. 1 LSU, and No. 15 Auburn at No. 10 Arkansas.

We saw the best from some teams, and the worst from others, and they will all lead to these shocking surprises in the polls.

Florida State Drops out of the Top 25

1 of 5

After being ranked No. 5 in the country in Week 3, the Florida State Seminoles steadily fell to No. 23 in Week 6, and will fall out of the rankings for Week 7.

After beating Louisiana-Monroe and Charleston Southern, the Florida State Seminoles lost their first true test against Oklahoma, and again during their second the very next week to Clemson.

The Seminoles were ranked No. 23 in the polls coming into Week 6, but after an embarrassing loss to Wake Forest Saturday afternoon, the Seminoles will be out of the top 25.

Florida State hasn't beaten any good team so far this season, and their early hopes of a BCS Bowl have been thoroughly dashed.

Texas Tech Moves into the Top 20

2 of 5

After an impressive 4-0 start, Texas Tech has a date with No. 24 Texas A&M. Tech will beat A&M and move into the top 20 at 5-0. Tech was unranked all year, but they will make their presence among the top schools known.

Texas Tech is one of only two undefeated schools that is not ranked in the top 25, and that will change by utilizing their passing game to exploit A&M.

The Red Raiders' win over A&M should be a convincing one because of how much A&M's pass defense has struggled this year, and Tech will be in the top 20 in the nation.

Texas A&M Falls out of the Top 25

3 of 5

After being ranked No. 8 in the preseason polls, the Texas A&M Aggies will fall out of the top 25 this week.

The Aggies have blown two halftime leads of double-digits, and their pass defense has been terrible; ranking last in the nation for passes completed.

Everyone involved with Texas A&M had high hopes for the season, but they are about to fall to 2-3, and then out of the top 25.

Florida Gators Fall out of the Top 25

4 of 5

The Florida Gators had a tough game against second-ranked Alabama only to be followed by an even tougher matchup with top-ranked LSU.

In that game against Alabama, the Gators ran for only 15 yards—an absolutely pathetic showing.  LSU's defense is almost as good as Alabama's and they will not allow Florida to score much in this game.

Florida will have two terrible outings in a row, and I see that edging them out of the top 25.

Oklahoma Takes over the No. 2 Spot in the Country

5 of 5

The No. 3 Oklahoma Sooners were supposed to be part of a close game with the No. 11 Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry, but instead they blew them out.

Oklahoma dominated in a  55-17 victory. Their defense was the deciding factor in the game, and their offense was very impressive too.

This win over No. 11 Texas, and a win over then No. 5 Florida State will give the Sooners the right to overtake No. 2 Alabama in the standings next week.
