College Football Predictions Week 6: 5 Teams Who Could Be Upset Today
Entering the sixth week of the season there are matchups that could change the landscape of the national title hunt and games that will have conference titles in mind. There are two major top 15 matchups and Florida is taking a No. 17 ranking on the road to No. 1 LSU.
Every week is full of parody and change in college football and this week should be no different and will surely not disappoint. Last week saw one of the craziest weekend’s in college football in a while.
This week should add more fuel to the fire as numerous changes could be looming in the top 25 after this week is played out. Here are five key upset games to watch.
No. 17 Florida at No. 1 LSU
1 of 5Yes, Florida lost its starting quarterback last week. Yes, LSU is one of the most dangerous defenses in the country and has a madhouse in Tiger Stadium every Saturday. Florida still has talent however and they have had time to prepare a new quarterback for more than 10 minutes.
LSU will have the obvious advantages of crowd and poise but Florida has the skill level talent to put points on the board against anyone. If LSU doesn’t want this game to be close, they have to shut down the Gators skill positions.
LSU will likely control the clock as much as possible and will look to keep Florida’s offense off the field. This would be a major upset after the terrible showing the Gators had against Alabama, but it is the SEC and it is college football.
No. 15 Auburn at No. 10 Arkansas
2 of 5Auburn has won four out of the last five road games that they have taken to Fayetteville. That may be the only thing that is in their favor heading into tonight’s game against the Hogs.
Arkansas has shown its ability to come from behind as they stayed the course against Texas A&M. Tyler Wilson showed the country that he was the real deal as he threw for 510 yards against a very good A&M defense.
Auburn saw firsthand what Wilson could do a year ago when he lit up the Tigers defense for over 300 yards. Auburn has to control the clock and feed the running game if they plan to stand a chance against Arkansas and its insanely talented passing attack.
Auburn is talented enough to pull off the second upset of No. 10 this season but it will be an extremely tough road to travel in Fayetteville under the lights.
No.3 Oklahoma at No. 11 Texas
3 of 5The Red River Shootout has made it here again. It is time for the Oklahoma vs. Texas game and the nation is a buzz about what is happening at both schools. Coming off the season that the Longhorns had a year ago, no one had them undefeated heading into this game.
Everyone expected Oklahoma to be undefeated at this point but having Texas in the same scenario makes this game one to watch. Oklahoma is hoping to turn this season into a title run and after this game, there is only one more major test in Oklahoma State.
If this game stays close long, it will be anyone’s ballgame. This is the most likely upset of the day and it would be a huge one.
Maryland at No. 13 Georgia Tech
4 of 5Georgia Tech has a real shot at winning the ACC and heading to a BCS title game this season. They have played extremely well and find themselves well within reach of an undefeated season. This week the Maryland Terrapins stand in the way.
Maryland has lost two games this season. One was to West Virginia where Maryland had a shot in the game but they followed that loss up with a whipping post style loss to Temple. Maryland has to show up in Atlanta to hope to win but they have the tenacity to win.
Tech has to take control of the game early. The Yellow Jackets have to stay efficient and plow down the rushing yards to victory. This game is not likely to end in an upset, but it stands a slight change at changing the national title race by ending another undefeated season.
Miami at No. 21 Virginia Tech
5 of 5Miami has been scandal plagued this season with the Shapiro allegations. Some players were suspended to start the season but some have made their way back to the playing field. The Hurricanes are talented and have a great coach in Al Golden so the future can be bright despite the NCAA issues.
That bright future needs to start this week against Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes travel to Tech and Tech has been very good this season until last week’s loss to Clemson.
Make no mistake; this game is huge in the hunt for the ACC title. Miami should have a strong game and earning a win could put them in great position to finish the season extremely strong.
