LaMichael James and the 5 Worst Losses to Injury This College Football Season

Randy ChambersOct 7, 2011

The main thing that fans fear is one of their key players going down with an injury.

It can really change your season—it could mean success or a huge disappointment.

Although nobody wishes an injury on anybody, it is part of the game and something that every team must prepare for.

Here are the five worst injury losses in college football so far.

Tennessee WR Justin Hunter

1 of 5

Justin Hunter is one of the top young receivers in the country and one of the top receivers in all of the SEC.

He had 415 receiving yards on only 16 catches in his freshman year. He was on pace to break those numbers before he tore his ACL in Week 3 against Florida.

Good thing is he is only a sophomore, because this kid is special, and we will probably see a lot of him on Sundays.

Texas QB Garrett Gilbert

2 of 5

Garrett Gilbert has never been a quarterback that wowed anybody with his play, but he had a ton of experience.

This is a big loss, because you always want to have an experienced quarterback available if needed. But this injury may have been a blessing in disguise, with the solid performances that Case McCoy has put on lately.

Garrett still has two years of eligibility, and he now has plans to transfer.

Oregon State WR James Rodgers

3 of 5

Rodgers had knee surgery last season. It is still affecting him this season, and in turn is taking a toll on the Beavers.

When James Rodgers is healthy, he is one of the flashiest players in the country.

Not only is he a solid receiver, but he also runs the ball well. He is one of the most dangerous return men in the country.

Rodgers is very valuable to this Beavers team, and he is one of their few bright spots they have this season. Hopefully he can regain form and be the player that we all saw in 2009, when he had over 2,000 total yards and 10 touchdowns.

Oregon RB LaMichael James

4 of 5

The Oregon Ducks running back had a great three quarters and looked to be climbing back into the Heisman race before suffering a nasty elbow injury. James had 239 rushing yards on 30 carries in the 43-15 victory over the California Golden Bears.

James now has 852 rushing yards and nine total touchdowns on the season.

If in fact James does miss some time, it not only will remove any chance of winning the Heisman, it could also effect the Ducks chances of winning the Pac-12.

Arkansas RB Knile Davis

5 of 5

This injury has to be the worst of the college football season because it effects a possible SEC champion. The Razorbacks have one of the best offenses in the country, and they average 351 passing yards a game.

Their rushing attack averages 120 yards a game, and the low numbers have a lot to do with the absence of Knile Davis.

If he was present this season, you could be witnessing one of the greatest offenses in college football.
